Goddam, I say a tiny bit of constructive criticism, and people think I'm an unfriendly scrooge. :v:
Anyone here into astrophotography? It's not particularly creative but I love it on a clear night :D I'll post some shots I've done later if anyone is interested.
Yes Yes Yes! Astrophotography is bomdiggity
Goddam, I say a tiny bit of constructive criticism, and people think I'm an unfriendly scrooge. :v:
I don't think anyone in this thread is a 'unfriendly scrooge' as you put it. I think what you done was perfectly acceptable, as it seems ScoutKing was replying to constructive criticism codenamecueball had given him. I saw it as you giving your opinion subtly really, and ScoutKing doesn't seem to mind so meh.
Mrcsb.... Do you honestly believe that "that looks ridiculous" is a great response? I don't want to argue a lot about this, but don't you agree with me when I say, that you could have told him what to do better instead? And I welcomed you because I couldn't recall your username - I'm sorry.
It was snowing a couple of weeks ago. I took 3 pics & made them into one HDR one I tried to get rid of the wires with content-away fill, but it made the trees a bit blurry
So, it snowed this morning. But since I was in a hurry for school I couldn't get any pictures, I saw a bunch of things that would've been very nice to shoot... Now it's the afternoon and it's just a slushy mess. It's no longer pretty... *sigh*
It was snowing a couple of weeks ago. I don't see why you made it into an HDR as there are no clouds or sky that would've been over-exposed if you only took one picture. There is no detail in the sky whatsoever so taking one picture would've been enough. Again, the reason you would make an HDR picture is to create an even exposure throughout your photo. Parts that would've been under-or over-exposed would be correctly exposed with a HDR image. Firstly you don't see the HDR-ness of your picture and secondly I don't see any need to create one as your picture was properly exposed. As for non-HDR critique; It's a weird angle. It doesn't add anything to your picture. There is no subject in your picture. It's just a whole bunch of clutter with all the trees, the house, the street, the signs, the fences etc. Focus on getting one subject first, like a lonely streetsign on a deserted road. It's better to have a nice and simple picture than a messy one. Decide what you want to shoot first, then take the picture. Remember, you want to direct the viewers' attention to the point of interest in your picture. There isn't any in yours so next time try to take one subject, it could even be a flower which is the easiest you can come by. Then think about framing. Do you want your subject to be on the left side of your picture? Or maybe on the right? Etc. Not trying to be mean, just giving you advice to think about when you go out shooting next time. Might I suggest you, and others interested, to take a look at my thread? I really love that thread, DoubleDD. When are you planning on updating it again?

I decided to stop taking pictures of my doorknob with my new camera and tried them out on my cat. some C&C be nice 007 by philchill17, on Flickr 006 by philchill17, on Flickr 005 by philchill17, on Flickr 004 by philchill17, on Flickr now that I post these I realize i should of had him in full frame more often
Images 4-5 remind me of that bannable cat image that was going around LMAO Pics. Otherwise, and improvement, though you need to work on getting the focus right, primarily. There's something I like about the first one, despite how simple it is, and the fourth had potential to be quite a nice photo.
YES! It turns out my memory card didn't die and I didn't actually lose 16 Gigabytes worth of pictures like I thought! Time to get uploading!

Scoutking, number 1 is actually quite good. It's my favourite at least. It's kinda got a weird DOF effect. Once you've mastered the settings on your camera, you should work on getting photos of good subjects in good settings. Although you should always learn how to use the camera before you do this (which I can see your trying to do in those pictures). Anyway, improvement from the last batch of pictures. Just work on that focusing.

Pretty good. How about yourself, Dai?
So yeah, fun shoot with Dai.
in the last 2 or 3 weeks this thread has gone from 20 posts a day to 100 posts a day. damn holidays giving people free time making it hard to keep up with the thread :argh:
yeah, I was surprised coming back to the thread and seeing '150 new posts' or whatever. also another giant headshot
Going to school for the first time in a few weeks, due to illness. Hoping to get a few portraits.
How many of you yokels are into Fine Art photography? I can guess most are straight or portraiture but I'd like to see some fine art too. I'm pretty much a straight photographer and one of the courses I was looking at in London is very Fine Art focused Photography, would like to know what your take is on it.
Yep, doing a photography course on top of mechanical engineering (workload gets heavy), I mostly do portraiture and still life in studio.
Since there where so much cats on the last few pages here's mine: C&C?
Oh god that's awesome. What lens did you use?
Back in last year's summer, a big tree had fallen right in a pond because of the heavy winds, and it looked fucking unbelievable. But sadly, I couldn't get a good view of it because of the vegetation surrounding the area.
Hey, you guys like cameras, and probably like science and technology in general, right? You'll probably find this at least somewhat interesting http://vimeo.com/5339102
