when you need low light performance or shallow DoF soft is a fair enough trade-off
I suppose. I have used the ME Super (it got me into SLR photography) recently (with a 50mm 1.7). Would you like to see some shots done with it? I posted them ages back.
I suppose. I have used the ME Super (it got me into SLR photography) recently (with a 50mm 1.7). Would you like to see some shots done with it? I posted them ages back.
If you have any that are at 1.7 and scanned well that would be great! my choice is either getting the 50 1.7 or the 40mm pancake. not sure which to get atm, although I'm leaning to the 50.
I have a Pentax ME Super coming in the mail, which is a fairly similar camera, but with aperture priority mode :smug: f/4 is a pretty dark lens, you should consider picking up a 50mm f/1.8 for $30 on evilbay and maybe a 40mm pancake and a 28mm f/2.8. cameras from the '70s have an abundance of insane quality prime lenses.
Because I mainly shoot sport I'm using ISO 400 film so brightness won't be too much of a problem for me :)
Ah, no sorry. I always shot f/4 on it, and the scans were done by ASDA, so they all were grainy as. I only now realized because I wasn't wearing my glasses, I guessed the manual focus on all of these
Because I mainly shoot sport I'm using ISO 400 film so brightness won't be too much of a problem for me :)
I've been shooting ISO 400 at f/3.5 - f/5.6 for the last few months (it was $2/roll, don't judge me) and it's good for daylight/shade but for indoors/night it just isn't good enough.
I get ISO 400 rolls, 36 exp Kodak for £1

It's not perfect, but if you keep working at it and you'll improve drastically.

Here I go... [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5001/5357269018_86e24ddef3_z.jpg[/img_thumb] Looks like a photo of dirt, not very interesting at all. if you are trying macro you really need to get closer to the weed(?) and make it fill the frame [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5128/5356646719_d218e84517_z.jpg[/img_thumb] again, this one looks plain boring, also I'm not sure how much the black and white adds to the photo. [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5288/5356649197_a4c6d23522_z.jpg[/img_thumb] The shadow / light contrast makes this *slightly* more interesting however again, it's just a photo of the ground. [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5169/5356644585_83a0603f82_z.jpg[/img_thumb] same as above really, unless done very, very well, you can't pull off a shot of the ground. [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5001/5357249816_3807c927a2_z.jpg[/img_thumb] this is getting better, the contrast between the different shades of concrete and the lines make it interesting. [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5041/5356639375_9a1b017d5d_z.jpg[/img_thumb] although this photo is eye-catching because of the angle I think it suffers from having no clear subject, perhaps if you used a shallower DoF you could isolate the wall (if that's what the subject is). [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5203/5356632453_dea9312928_z.jpg[/img_thumb] This I like very much, the ambient light is just right, with all of it falling on the altar / stage (?). I like the way that the isle leads to the stage and how light shows us where to look [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5208/5357274838_977b9c9c77_z.jpg[/img_thumb] I think that the eagle should be in full focus, try a higher f-stop. also the candle in the right is a unnecessary distraction and you probably should have moved it. [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5121/5356618063_f5ab47c87a_z.jpg[/img_thumb] I like this one. maybe you could try to pull the detail back in the shadows and do some faux-HDR (real HDR, not the HDR-rape shit). [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5242/5356619719_ce1e6113f4_z.jpg[/img_thumb] the light in this is very nice. the model however isn't in a pose that relates to the background. the basic rule of photography is "to have an interesting rule in front of a relevant background". In your shot the guy smiling isn't relevant to the library setting. If he was reading however that would change everything. he also seems a tad underexposed. You should be able to pull that up in photoshop. [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5281/5356657645_ddda242299_z.jpg[/img_thumb] I'm not sure with this one, the water is nice and the paper-boat-thing is nice but I don't think you managed to capture it very well. I think that you would need to crop this so that the subject takes up a more substantial ammount of the frame because at the moment it gets "lost". [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5241/5357265770_60426765e0_z.jpg[/img_thumb] finally, kinda similar to the last, this needs to be cropped. you have too much wasted space in the bottom and the left which are just plain uninteresting. make your subject fill your frame. Please take that all with a grain of salt, it's only my opinion. my main style is street photography so if you want inspiration go check out my flickr stream http://www.flickr.com/photos/jhaslehurst/ my friend jeremy is also a street photographer and he is pretty incredible so go check that out too if you want http://www.flickr.com/photos/26142215@N05/ if/when you read this can you tell me what your opinion on my opinion is? If I have helped you the i will keep giving you this feedback but if you think that I have just said "your photos are fucking shit" I will keep my opinion to myself.
for most people this happens to be their 18-55 kit lens at 55mm. don't ask me why they can focus past infinity on the long end
apparently when lenses focus past infinity, it's to allow for the small, temporary changes in part sizes mechanical tolerances due to changes in temperature which i guess makes sense.
This wont be working just yet but as I'm going to bed I thought I had better post now, this is the video I've been working on for the last few days. now I know a lot asks for comments and critisicm and then when they get told straight they can't take the truth (that their photos are shit or whatever the case may be). but please point out anything that's wrong with this or any suggestions that you have. I'm not sure how to end it, I'm having a meeting tomorrow to figure that out. I also haven't finished colour grading. I want the entire video to look like the first couple of shots, should hopefully just be a case of applying RGB curves to every clip. [editline]16th January 2011[/editline] it's ready to be watched! also compwhizii needs to fix that damn zombie audio
-snip-
Pretty cool video, the start and stop style I like but maybe some won't. Strange ghosting like effect with the slow mo, is that intentional? I'm not sure if it would look better if you used a tripod for the standing shots. also DAMN VIMEO AUTOMATICALLY PLAYING
I Flickr worth getting?
I Flickr worth getting?
I recommend it. Nice site to use, good community from what I've found so far and if you have a mac, having an uploader built into iPhoto saves so much hassle if you don't do much editing after import.
Pretty cool video, the start and stop style I like but maybe some won't. Strange ghosting like effect with the slow mo, is that intentional? And with using more tripod, I think that would make my video neater, however I do like the "raw" look that it has.
I'm new to photography, tell me what you think! All unedited.
I Flickr worth getting?
For me, Flickr is sort of a centralized place for my pictures. I upload the keepers, and every few months I can just re-size all my old shots sitting on my hardrive and tuck them away in a compressed folder, in case there's something I have to have. Continuing further off topic, I'm not one to hold on to my work, I value my skills more than the products. If all my pictures were deleted it wouldn't bother me too much, because I know my new stuff will always be better. That said, I hate people who treat everything they shit out likes its gold and can't be replaced.
aving an uploader built into iPhoto saves so much hassle if you don't do much editing after import.
Lightroom on PC (and mac, but i digress) has this too. I think I am going to sell my Canon 7D and buy a used 550D with a 70-200 f2.8.
You'll miss your 7D pretty quickly. On paper, they seem to be the same camera, but there are intangible luxuries to having a semi-pro camera. And of course you do get all the little advantages like build quality, frame rate, and focusing.

I know I won't have any budget to use for maybe a year and a half with a car purchase and some other much needed expenses. I just figure a decent body with a great lens will get me more on the same budget.
Sell the d60 and start saving for a lens.
