Taking quick snaps of the sun is okay for the camera and the lens, right? I would think long exposures would be bad but anything quick should be safe enough.

If you mean me, I took that with my Motorola Milestone XT720. The lens flares kinda expected if you point it directly at the sun, just thought it looked cool :v: Here's another I took while the sun was setting: Quality was raped a bit by Facebook though, don't feel like re-uploading.
Ah, the iPhone 4 flares very similary
Thought I would add this for hilarity. Also taken with my phone while on the train+raped by Facebook for Android uploader. I've lost the original file now so oh well.
I always considered uploading to Facebook before I found Flickr, people tell me to upload to Facebook because its handy but the quality isn't so great, the high res feature is nice but most don't bother clicking. My Mobile uploads are always pretty bad quality.
They have fixed the quality issue with the Android uploading now I believe. Also what is better, Picasa or Flickr?
This breaks down the differences quite nicely for you but its a bit old so it might have changed. http://rahul-bhattacharya.blogspot.com/2009/06/picasa-web-albums-vs-flickr-ultimate.html I didn't know of Picasa until a while after I got Flickr Pro account. I saw the Flickr upload plugin for iPhoto and just thought that's handy as heck. Lightroom also has Flickr upload but I'm not sure about Picasa. Flickr seems to be quite popular. According to this article Flickr had 26 million registered users last July, while Picasa had 500,000.
flickr for upload
Uploading to facebook turns it into a popularity contest, it just dissolves into your friends and family saying nice things about your work so they can feel better about themselves for being oh-so nice to you. Flickr is infinitely better (regarding photos), because it's not a closed network like your facebook. You need other people like yourself to see and influence your work. My brother managed to get a hold of an animator for adventure time on vyou and he pretty much went on a tangent about the same thing.
I upload to facebook because I like photographing people. And the people who are currently in my life (therefore the subjects of my photographs) are on facebook. It's a good tool for sharing my photos with those people. Simple.

Thats why I upload my stuff to facebook.
If anybody takes a photo in my school, they get suspended
If anybody takes a photo in my school, they get suspended
Tell them to fuck off. Take photographs. Get suspended and keep doing it until they change their minds.
If anybody takes a photo in my school, they get suspended
Wow, really? Only one teacher ever said something about me not being allowed to take pictures of other kids, when I took a picture of a little girl sharing her lunch with a boy. She saw me taking the picture, then started to cry, cause she thought I took the picture of her, and her friend, cause they looked fun. I went over there and asked what was wrong, then said that I thought they looked cute, not fun. Then I asked if she wanted me to delete it, she said no, looked at me and laughed.
I got a quick question : I have a Nikon D3000 body and im going to buy a 70-300 vr. This is a pretty big lens for a small body. Mytripod says it can hold up to 4KG, so that shouldnt be a problem(It's a pretty stable tripod). Im more worried about balance. Do you guys think my small body can handel such a big lens on a tripod ? I think this will solve it : Any ideas ?
70-300? pfft, 70-200 is when you need a ring
I dont like the idea of a 700g lens mounted to a 250g body on a tripod
so where does the tripod ring go without it falling off?
Daijitsu's CRASH COURSE TUTORIALTIPTHINGcaps
You should post more tut/tips like this! Also
Nerves kicking in. Falmouth asked me for a portfolio of 15-20 images, so I'm going to be extremely picky about which ones I send in. I should think of a project to structure some images with.
I've applied to falmouth aswell, what course? I've not got a reply yet though as i've only just sent off my ucas (well before the jan deadline)
I've applied to falmouth aswell, what course? I've not got a reply yet though as i've only just sent off my ucas (well before the jan deadline)
BA Hons Photography. I just got the letter today, mine was a few days before the deadline. What about you?
I dont like the idea of a 700g lens mounted to a 250g body on a tripod
i've a 750 gram body + the 70-300 on a 2.2kg max tripod and it works well enough
Have any of you guys used calibration tools on your displays for photography purposes? I can't really spend any money on calibration tools at the minute but I don't know if my photos are off by much.
I had my display calibrated ages ago, and come to think of it I need to do it again
I dont like the idea of a 700g lens mounted to a 250g body on a tripod
what was that? I can't hear you from over here
BA Hons Photography. I just got the letter today, mine was a few days before the deadline. What about you?
Marine and Natural History photography and press and editorial photography. I'd be happy with either, but I doubt they will accept me though.
More pictures from play rehearsals. Actors make funny faces sometimes... I'm usually not a fan of pictures this dark, but the darkness and contrast of this one fit the mood of the scene very well. C&C welcomed.
