Again, no real subject. If there was someone/thing standing or positioned to the left, it would be more interesting but right now it's just a piece of forest.
Thanks for the advice, I'm improving already. Oh and another contribution:

I really like the DoF on this one :D

Oops I already showed that one
I agree with Dclone. It is more like a holiday snap of some forest excursion rather than a piece of photography in an artistic way. Keep it up though, if you enjoy it enough to invest in a better camera then go for it.
Also start playing with your images in photoshop or similar - so simple level tweaks, sharpness, etc. to make the image as nice as it can be. I have only been doing photography since a month ago so I won't pretend I am an expert but I will say to go out and take photos as much as you can. Personally I go out every day for a walk and see what I can find. I think I have been improving a little but only more time will tell I think. I hope you'll continue and improve. :buddy:

Thanks for the advice, I know how you feel, when I take photos, it's usually from me just walking around my house or the local parks. Also, I've never been very good at photoshop, but that doesn't mean I wont try it out on my photos!

Nice shot, reminds me of an adult swim bump.
Shame these were so noisy but I was walking about this morning and forgot to pay attention to my cameras settings. :saddowns:

Anyone got any tips on how to reduce noise in photoshop?
I usually play around with smart blur. It's sometimes useful because it blurs colors/textures but lines stay relatively crisp. Must be used in moderation though.
Thanks. Whenever I looked at "reduce noise" it made the noise 10x worse.
Be brutal, but have truth in your words.
Corbusier didn't really believe in privacy. That's why he designed that building with a lot of public space and very little privacy for the residents. So it would probably feel like a prison. Many of his buildings are designed for the people to adjust to them, rather than the buildings adjusting to the people (which is a very flawed concept in my opinion, one of the many reasons why I don't like Corbusier as an architect).

very nice photos though skam
fucking bauhaus, how does it work?
fucking bauhaus, how does it work?
they were basically all communists and thus they wanted to fuck the sys (which was fair cause it was pretty boring and shit back then)
some of it worked and some of it didn't
and subsequently corbusier's legacy is a 3 decade long worldwide phenomenon of almost universally despised hideous concrete boxes lacking in character and often becoming the very centres of poverty and depravation like the slums they were designed to replace

I love this, wonderful shot dude.
Both of above shots are great. The lighting on the second is really unique.
I don't know why I'm posting these. I know absolutely nothing about photography, composition or the elements and theory of art. I just happen to own a compact/point-and-shoot camera which I use for random snapshots, but I had nothing better to do one day and I went out with a couple of my brothers who are into photography and I took a few badly composed, amateur and boring photos.
I just want some constructive criticism. I know they suck, but I'm looking for a hobby and I'm exploring options.

Dude, what are you talking about.
Those are all great. Especially the last one.
The only one that is "meh" is the 5th one. All the others have a good subject, good framing, nice lighting/color, and are overall really interesting. Good job and keep up the good work!

Thanks. I put the 5th one in at the last minute because I didn't like it that much, and I guess I shouldn't have.
I'm think I'm going to start saving for a DSLR. Can anyone recommend a decent low-mid range model?

threw this together for the tumblr 'pic pick' thing. the graininess looks pretty badass.
I am not too fond of the grain look but that is just me. To me it looks like the image just has too much noise on it rather than some effect.
I like the swans. :h:
Her face needs more light as she's a bit hidden in the dark and she is meant to be the subject of the photograph but otherwise it's nice.

Is there any kind of definitive guide on "photography"? You guys are all so skilled, I'm wondering if its just lots of practice or is there some knowledge I'm missing out on? I've got most of the technical stuff down, but I can't seem to figure out how to get good content.
Thanks.

practice. do a 365 or something
I first tried to be really technical about it with settings and etc. but it didn't work for me. Instead I just walk with the camera around my neck and use it whenever something comes to me rather than looking for/setting up something otherwise to me my pictures look contrived. So instead of going out with "what can I take pictures of" on my mind I just walk and enjoy the day until something stands out. I like to go out in the morning or evening and in my opinion evening light (just before the sun is reaching full "sunset") gives off some fantastic light. I don't do a 365 but I may as well do I take pictures almost every day/twice a day sometimes taking 150 shots on a small 30 minute walk.

That's the kind of advice I'm looking for. Thanks. The reality for me though is that bringing my SLR everywhere inherently makes me look for "what can I take pictures of". Maybe it's just something I'll have to get over. I've only been shooting for a year with a total of 15,000 shots. I started on an older rebel and learned my way around the camera, got a 500d and some lenses and now I'm trying to grasp the intangibles.
I recommend this book for any beginners. It really covers almost everything you need to know very clearly, and provides many good examples and tips.

Thank you, good sir.
ALSO, does anyone know about the 70-200 f/4L? I want an L series with flexibility for general shooting, sans paying out the ass.
