Yes, of course. The lower end tele lenses aren't that expensive. Like 200$.

Oh and that does remind me, seeing you all talk about wide angle lenses, I have been wanting to buy a wide angle lens a while. Anyone got any good recommendations for a Nikon D3000 (that doesn't cost the earth.)

a $200 telephoto lens probably isnt worth shit, first lens anyone should get is either a 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 there dirt cheap and really nice quality, then i would get a ultrawidezoom that combo is going to be more useful in the long term general shooting, indoors

Heh atleast it works for me. I'm using a Nikon so I don't know the equivalent to the 50mm 1.8. Else I have the kitlens (Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S VR DX NIKKOR).
not really almost all the cameras talkedabout here are crop bodys unless nikon inclue a lens designed for crop, canon dont

Maybe the Sigma 10-20 HSM? It has an onboard motor and isn't that expensive. I've been looking into wide-angles too, and my eye is set on the tokina 11-16.
Nice picture btw

Heh, I just read about it and snipped the post. Learning something everyday.

Is there a Nikon equivalent? I just like the finish matching on the lens and the camera. The Sigmas look like they have a different finish. I know that is a bit silly but I just can't stop myself! That Sigma costs about £400, which is a bit much for me right now. I am sure the Nikon equivalents are just as bad though. I am no good at choosing lenses, I can't seem to find one for under £200. :saddowns:
I can just wait I guess, though that is going to take a long time before I have enough to afford one.
nikon do similarly priced 50mm 18 and 1.4's, looks like a better body design than canons 1.8 as well, that was a reply to swebody he mentioned not knowing what the nikon equivalent to a canon 50mm was.
3 rd party lens can usually be bought with mounts for the manufacturer of you choice

There is a Nikon equivalent ofcourse. Only problem is that it almost costs twice as much(talking about the Nikon 10-24)
There isn't really much below the sigma for that price, so either save some money or, well, just save some money :)
you can get the tokina for nikon mount http://www.digitalrev.com/en/tokina-at-x-116-pro-dx-af-11-16mm-f2-dot-8-lens-2993.html?match_type=1 that price isfor a nikon mount it cost £50 more for canon mount
lol at amazon uk prices for that lens
Nikons seem to always cost a fair bit more when they have VR but I tend to need the VR as my hands are really shaky sometimes I am not too good at holding stuff steady.
You're right though, time to save up more pennies.
I've been looking on the gorillapod for some time now, and I think I am gonna buy it, it's not that pricy, only about 20$ and for still images and long shutter speed photos, it would work like a charm. I don't want to walk around with a big tripod, I would look like an idiot. And it isn't that easy to come around with.

Yes but it's not about which is the better lens, it's about how costly they are. She was going for the most cheapest solution here. The Tokina is indeed better, but with an adapter it is also far more expensive.
maybe if the sigma was £150-200 i could see it as a viable option but at £337 for the f4-5.6 and £421 for the f3.5 they dont seem worth considering.
if she doesnt want to spend to much there is always second hand
I think I'd rather save up then go for a second hand one. I'd be worried about a second hand one being scratched and such. I suppose I'll have to just stick with my two for now (only have the kit lens and a 55-200mm right now) have only had the camera about a month and a bit. Thanks for all the inputs everyone if anyone has any other advice it's appreciated. :h:
What is a second hand one?
What is a second hand one?
it means when you buy it from someone that's already used it
As in one someone else owned and used previously.
edit: ninjad probably by a few seconds. :saddowns:
Oh, I feel stupid now.

i wouldn't
english is a pretty stupid language
They make you look pro if you shoot canon because of the white barrel. People won't bother you if you're out in the city. You also get more credibility if you ask to take pictures in weird places.
I plan on getting a 70-200 f/4 (too poor for the 2.8) to go along with my 28-105 and 8 WIDE.
wide isn't bad either
I got my first "excuse me, what are you doing?" this morning when I was out (around 6:20am morning walk) with my camera. :saddowns:
Remember, as long as you're on public property, they can't stop you. It's embarrassing though at stores and stuff when you whip out your rig and they say no photog. Be polite and don't argue with people, but if you're clearly on public property, have at them.
I get tons of shit (mainly from the 5-0) riding my fixie in the wee hours, especially with my camera. Probably a good idea to have a mirror shot of yourself or two on the card to prove it's yours.
Have an ID, they will let you go pretty easily. If you look like you know what you're doing, they wont be as suspicious. Sometimes they just let me go without asking for ID, on account of my "high end bike/camera" haha.
Well it wasn't an officer or anything it was just a guy walking his dog. I just said "I'm a photography student" and he said it was an odd time of day and I said "the best hours for light are early morning and sunset" and he nodded like he had heard it before and I was on my merry way. I am not actually a photography student I did programming but I am technically learning photography in my spare time. I guess I should have just said I was a hobbyist but I thought saying student would make it seem less weird.

I usually use the "I'm a photography student and I'm doing X project" excuse to get places people would otherwise yell at me for. Just say "OH! can I get a picture of that really quick? You can watch while I do it, I won't cause trouble or anything please please PLEEEAAAAAAASE! :buddy:"
I will have to try that if I ever find any interesting stuff to take a photo of that isn't public. :buddy:
A few I took whilst I was out.

people like that need to be told to get fucked, nosy pricks, really, you're not infringing on their rights, they've got no right to accost you whatsoever.
http://www.artslaw.com.au/legalinformation/StreetPhotographersRights.asp <- this is for Australia, but your own is well worth investigating
Yeah, he was being a bit nosey. The first time he saw me I was sat on a pathway taking pictures of daisies laying down though so maybe I seemed crazy. :v:
