Is there any way to get the old flickr page back? I fuckign hate the new sizes
I love the new formatting, personally. It even gives you a black-page to view pictures on by default. :buddy:
On vacation, currently about 10 minutes outside the Lead-Deadwood area in the Black Hills, SD. We've had thunderstorms moving in and out, typical hard rain and thunder, except yesterday. Rain so torrential that you couldn't see more than 20ft, enough hail to make Deadwood look like it was covered in snow, snow in august v:v:v Not to mention the Sturgis motorcycle rally is in just a few days, funny watching all these people on motorbikes in the hail trying to find somewhere to hide. All of these but the picture of the hail/snow stuff was messed with in potatoshop. The 3rd one is my favorite, you can see the whole storm front. Dense Fog after the hailstorm, the further up you go the worse it got, down to 5ft visibility. The whole city and surrounding area looked like this :derp:

I don't like taking photos of people, but the world around us. I hope these photos are alright to post
I wholeheartedly recommend this. You might think the fixed focal length is a downside, but trust me, the lens makes up for that in every other area. It's actually really awesome to have to move around to frame your shot (of still subjects) and it makes you a more dynamic photographer. It's my favorite lens and probably has the most usage time out of all my lenses. It's also incredibly cheap, sharp, and has killer depth of field. You can't go wrong with the 50mm 1.8. I also lied about it being my favorite lens, I just got my 1969 Nikkor 55mm 2.8 Macro. It's now my new favorite lens.
The 50mm F/1.8 isn't very sharp, and nor is my 50mm F/1.4 (atleast not at the lowest aperature). The depth of field is awesome, yes, but they're not sharp at all at 1.8 or 1.4 either of them. Also, I've had 3 50mm 1.8's, but they've all broken, lol. The 1,4 is very sturdy and has the USM motor. It's in general a better piece of hardware, but then again, it costs more than twice as much. Conclusion is though, the 50mm F/1.8 is worth the money for sure, but no wonder-lens.
Picture of dog
I though it was a woman just as I loaded up the page :v:

I can't recommend it since I've never used it, and he's just getting into photography and I doubt he wants to drop $300 bucks on a lens (not now at least). How'd you break three of the 1.8s? I keep playing a scenario of it falling under a car or something during one of your shoots :v:
One broke because it was in my bag in the trunk of a Mazda RX-7 drifting while I was up front in the passengerseat, lol. It rolled out of my bag and got destroyed somehow. Second broke when I tried to unmount it from my camerahouse in a hurry, suddenly, I stood with half of the lens in the hand, and the other hand was still on the camera. The third just stopped focusing for no apparent reason.
One broke because it was in my bag in the trunk of a Mazda RX-7 drifting while I was up front in the passengerseat, lol. It rolled out of my bag and got destroyed somehow.
I figured it had something to do with cars. Sucks though.
No one is saying it's the best performing lens. It's value comes from its sharpness to cost ratio. Raiskauskone, your pictures are a good start. A few things though. Your pictures are lacking a direct subject. They're just backgrounds. I guess you could classify them as landscapes, but even then they still need a lot of work because your photos lack composition. Nothing is placed in interesting ways, it's not aesthetically pleasing. These look like (sorry to be harsh) snapshots you'd take when selling something on craigslist. Don't jump to blame your camera, it's mostly the absence of proper photographic technique, mainly composition. I don't expect a beginner to have proper photographic technique, so I'm trying to help, not hurt. This is a simple guide that should help you greatly. You've got a start, and bonus points for sticking out a whole year and getting shot each season.
That site is awesome, got many small useful 'How To' guides.

The 50mm 1.8 is a great value lens and for the money you just can't go wrong. Stop it down to maybe f2.8 or f4 and you've got a very sharp lens.

Thanks :) Just wondering, why do you always crop to square?
It looks better on the flickr layout instead of different shaped photos.
Nice. I was trying to figure out if its some kind of compositional thing, but that works too.

It's a shame some of the blurred plants in the foreground are a bit anoying but other than that, I think that is a pretty cool picture
