yeah, that ebay link seems like a lot of rubbish. You don't really need to buy all that stuff in one kit, you should REALLY pick and choose the things you need as you need them, and like was said about the SD card make sure to buy something new because those are probably outdated and slow as hell. Whoever buys that is going to be one of those old creepy dudes who takes pictures of concerts for a venue and acts like he knows what he's doing, but looks like an idiot because despite having a nice flash connected on top, he somehow managed to activate the onboard flip-up flash and is using that instead. speaking of that oddly specific old dude, he had a D40, and swore I was lying when I said I had a D5000 because they "don't exist and [I'm] making up an obvious fake number" :sigh:
You don't need that much stuff, especially that many lenses, 2 or 3 (at most) are more than adequate. Better to take that $2500something and buy fewer but higher quality pieces of kit (e.g. a real Nikon flash vs the no-name "TTL" one). That 70-300mm lense is great though, use it all the time.

Does anyone have any tips on how to take good pics of space?
Like astro-photography? Don't know much about it, but you'll need a decent telescope. If you just want nighttime sky pics take long exposures with low iso and the stars will show. I've only tried it casually once.
maybe he meant startrails? http://www.adidap.com/2008/10/30/tips-for-shooting-star-trails-pictures/ is a good guide for that, i never tried it (damn light pollution and cloudy sky's) but mutiple exposures has got to be better than a single super long one. also on canon disable the long exposure noise reduction in the custom menus or you will end up waiting forever between shots. it will be benifical to all night photography
latirCole, do you use natural light in your portraits?
I shot this few weeks back http://vimeo.com/13778676 I didn't even realize that you can see few stars shooting down before closely inspecting it
This is random, but I want you guys to look at my and tear me a new one. Even if you don't know much about photography I'm getting too comfortable. I need outside opinions to open my perspective. Look at my pics, tell me what you do and [mainly] don't like about them. Don't worry about 'hurting my feelings' or anything, I want to know how my shots are perceived, even if that means a raw 'this sucks'.
http://vimeo.com/13778676
I like it. I like how you got the active windows with the lights going on and off. some people just do time lapses of clouds. Get out there and experiment, I'm sure you could make some killer time lapses.
Your link doesn't work, Bopie. Too bad. I wanted to check out your stream. While we're on the subject, here's my . There isn't much to it. [editline]02:15AM[/editline] Yes, I had to steal that. I think it's pretty nifty. :v: [editline]02:16AM[/editline] I'm going to shut that one down soon. I'm pretty sick of my old photos. I want to start from scratch.
Fixed it. Haha yeah I was bored, took me awhile to match it to the font size (i think its still off). Your stuff is good. You're talented with lighting.
This is random, but I want you guys to look at my
http://www.flickr.com/photos/steveotto/4874182477/ what type of lights did you use here? im tired of using just a led flashlight im trying to find good multi colored lights for my light graffiti.
Glowsticks from walmart. $1 each.
Get out there and experiment, I'm sure you could make some killer time lapses.
Thing is that I need to hook the camera up to my computer, and I don't really want to sit in the same spot for 6 hours
The biggest problem for me is to focus to "Infinity". My crappy 18-55m kit lens don't have that symbol on it. So unless there's a bright star or the moon I can focus on, finding the right spot is hard.
Turn the focus ring all the way to left.
Mine just goes blurry at that point, just a tiny notch backwards makes it better I also use live view with x10 zoom to get it right sometimes [editline]02:14PM[/editline] I have the 18-55 kit lens too
kit lenses are not all that good, I bought a 35mm lens for my D40 and it is so much better, its hard at first because you have to move around to take pictures instead of just zooming in and out. But eventually it gets more fun. I'm starting to shoot in Manual mode now. I have nothing to show yet though, because most pictures have friends and family on them and I don't want to post those everywhere.
Haven't shot anything in a while, but here's some pics of a wedding I did about a month ago. I can't decide if I'll make a thread with more images, depends on feedback really. Anyways, here goes: Group photos: Father and Son Bride and Bridesmaids Bride and Groom Bride and Groom We went to a local beach (they live in Blackpool) and Windmill and got some other nice shots there [editline]01:30PM[/editline] Also my flickrrrrrrrr http://www.flickr.com/photos/ninjamoosetv/
Mine just goes blurry at that point, just a tiny notch backwards makes it better I also use live view with x10 zoom to get it right sometimes [editline]02:14PM[/editline] I have the 18-55 kit lens too
The thing that works for my D40 the best is when i put the Focus mode on AF-S, and then I focus on a star. That should make it focus to infinity automatically. And after I have the right focus I just switch to Manual focus and take pictures.
[...wedding pics...]
In my opinion the incidence of light in the first two photos is not optimal because of the shadows on their faces. I wish people would keep EXIF data in their pics
Same, but some editting softwares deletes it
