Click to largeify.
Also, here's the insane sized one;

If you had used that technique, it would have been alot better imo.
And the out of focus rock down to the left annoys my eyes.
Great shot though
I wish I could've, but I was sticking my camera out of a fence, barely with any control - it was really hard getting the shot to begin with, getting another one as similar as possible with a different focus point would be hell.

Just bought a 50 1.8 two days ago, been having a lot of fun lol. Even on a crop body, it's worth it. I like the challenge of framing things with a prime lens at an 80mm equivalent.

that's the cool thing about having stuff organized in sets.
Would anyone here recommend the Canon 550D / Rebel T2i? I would be using it for both video and photography. (Also I would purchase a LCDVF, Rode SVM, Canon 50mm f1.8 and Zoom H1)
If you're on a tight budget, the best camera you can get for the same price as the 550D is the Alphonse Giroux.

Just bought the same lens myself, loving it so far. Though I havn't had a chance to really doing anything creative with it besides some tests shots.
Huge Image Dump! Sorry about the sizes.
C&C is most appreciated!
Also, the PTA reflections theme this year is "Together we can..." and I have no idea what to do. Ideas?

Beautiful pictures.
C&C for magick:
Photo 1; Composition is boring and uninteresting. The rule of thirds would do this wonders. Having the gun in the center of the frame of is the obvious, and thusly, does not stir any kind of emotional response. There is no depth either, it's just a straight on picture. The lighter is rather bland as well. Rating? A snapshot with a higher end point and shoot.
Photo 2; You're trying and I like it. The picture is ruined by the cat. Blur your eyes and there is no clear contrast between the head and the cat. It just a big blob of brownish colors smack dab in the center of the frame, cut off at the top. It creates the same aesthetic as coffee spilled on a paper. The head being cut off is irritating. This needs work on framing and composition (rule of thirds, etc). The lighting is harsh and unartisitc. Rating? Beginning to break free of 'snapshot land'.
Photo 3; Too narrow depth of field. You can only see the tip of the subject, the rest of the head is out of focus. The out of focus grass blades have the same aesthetic as bugs on a windshield, they just get in the way of the eyes. The subject is cut off, and the composition is boring. Rating? Clearly showing interest in photography, but still in the 'using macro as a crutch' stage. Macro photography nearly always looks good to the person who shoots it. It's just too easy and I can't give it respect unless you do something that is really attractive and creative.
Photo 4; Exactly the same as above. The composition is better, but the ears are cut off and that ruins it. Rating? Keep practicing, you have potential.
Photo 5; You're relying on the graffiti to make the picture. This is in the same league (to me) as a scanning of a drawing. This photo does nothing than serve as a medium for the art that already exists. There's no (real) subject, no depth, no sense of scale. Picture the wall being blank, would this be even a picture you would take? Probably not. If you can include a subject, it would make the picture much, much more interesting. There's alot I could say about this, but I think the 'blank wall' concept will get the message across. Rating? You're looking for artistic elements in the colors, but not quite getting the effect you're looking for. You've got the stuff, now we need to mold it.
Photo 6; Okay. Blue light in a crazy pattern. Not you're everyday snapshot, no. Is it interesting though? No. There are no artistic elements in this photo. Its just swirls of blue. Me taking a crayon and scribbling on a piece of paper creates the same aesthetic. It's lacking a subject and background, or some kind of point of reference. What I'm trying to say is that this is a very empty composition. Take a look at this. It has everything you're missing.

You're attempt isn't bad though. It shows technical skill. Rating? We're getting somewhere, but this picture doesn't stand out from the thousands of others we've seen.
Photo 7; I like this, its got an interesting view point, the tunnel effect is nifty. What would send this home would be a subject. Like a person standing at the end, or something to break up the 'scribble drawing' aesthetic. I could repeat everything I said about photo 6.
Alright so that's my C&C for you. I know I kinda dove headfirst, so here's a great resource for composition.
You've got potential, and I'm sorry if anything I said brings you down. It's not meant to, I'm just trying to point out some things with the intention of helping you improve yourself. Keep at it mate.
Just had an airshow and went on the Lane Victory, an old cargo transport ship from WWII.

Thanks a lot. Looking at them, I don't really feel like it shows my true talent (not that I'm super talented). I have some better stuff on my flicker, but its being a little bitch and I cant sign on anymore.
I'll try to get some more up later.

Since I cannot get the right links,

Mind you, the ski/snowboard ones, the subjects were in motion and I had to avoid others coming down the hill. It was also around 10 degrees and I couldn't feel my fingers.
My phone decided it's a good time to take a (relatively) good quality picture, and I thought it came out pretty good:

Playing with lightroom lol.
Ed I am absolutely in love with all your photos. The color looks absolutely amazing and everything is just so crisp. Especially the ones earlier on in the thread of the buildings and such.
Just got my DSLR yesterday, quite new to photography. Using an EOS Rebel XS (18-55) and edited these very briefly in ACR (a couple are JPEG's).

My hands weren't cooperating so I had a lot that were slightly ghosted. Didn't use a tripod and I haven't been out much so they were all just in and around the house.
I know most of the basic concepts and such of photography but I don't have much knowledge on how to piece everything together and make it work. C&C kindly appreciated.

Using Kit lens (18-55mm, max F/3.5).
When I put a special filter on it in Photoshop, I was amazed at how much it resembled a map of a city:

kinda dull colours, the subject just seems to blend in the rocks and water in a bad way imho.

Sivics, props for the photo, if you wouldn't mind explaining, how d'you specifically go about getting a shot like this? I'd noticed the full moon's brightness last night and wished to try and capture it, but it didn't work out right. I have a Nikon D5000 with a kit lens (18-55), could you recommend a starting point of settings such as iso/aperture etc, cheers.
