Are majority of these photos caked up like lady gaga on a friday night? Or are they all 'raw' straight from the camera?

Most of them are probably 'caked' up but that doesn't really matter that much. You see, the camera will not take pictures that are a 1-to-1 copy of real life. The sensor just can't do that. So a little post-processing isn't really harmfull as long as you don't over-do it.(unless you are going for a certain look)

Creative photography doesn't have to be representative, anyway.
usually the images that are 1:1 with real life are the worst
Yeah and besides, most of these aren't "caked" up, but more like dressed for the night out. They have just enough make-up to look dashingly beautiful while still maintaining their identity.
Took a walk outside in the rain, ended up with this.
Personally, I'd say wait a month and get the D3100. It can shoot 1080p video with continuous focus, and has a 14MP sensor. I have the D3000, and if you're getting it for the guide feature, I would think twice because I have used the guide mode maybe twice in the entire time I've owned the camera.
I still have to get all the funds together to buy a camera, so by the time I get enough money the D3100 will probaly already be out.
I checked it out, and it sounds alot better then the D3000. And even better, seems to be in the same price range. So I'll definitly be picking up the D3100 instead.
Also, I wasn't planning to use the guide modes at all, I've downloaded a few books on photography and am reading up on it, and I'm planning to learn hands on when I finally get the camera.
Thanks alot for the help.
Brian, I gotta stress having them not look at the camera. It always feels like a deal-breaker when they're staring right at you, it makes things feel really forced to me. A simple tilt of the head, even if she's still making eye contact, may make leaps and bounds. Least, in theory.
It is beautiful outside and it's a right damn shame that my grandma took her camera with her when she went out.
Tomorrow I'll be taking a metric shitton of pictures of graffiti and a pair of abandoned buildings. Expect a nice dump.
Quick little something I did for a contest. The contest is to take a picture of your favorite toy eating it's favorite food. That's a chunk of carrot cake, by the way.

My automerge went away D:

been asked to shoot my second wedding in October. Yay :buddy:
Congrats!
funny story with the first- I was originally asked to do the shoot by myself. When I got there, people were confused, and said "We have another photographer? I thought (so and so) was doing it. She's a professional, you know!"
so I meet up with the lady that got asked to help out, and who was a self-proclaimed professional.
She had only that week bought a new Nikon D3000, had upgraded from a point-and-shoot and from what I could tell was the kind of hobbyist who takes the occasional photo of their pets (no offense to anyone here who's taken pictures of pets, they're adorable and you should keep doing it).
She kept getting in my shots, even in the above photo.

sure, just run out while I had them posed how I wanted. :argh:
Her photos were really sub-par, I dug through them afterwards. However, the family still thinks she took all the photos that ended up in the album, in which my shots outnumbered hers 5 to 1.
Seems you are only a professional if you say you are these days. :sigh:

I should really not rely on auto-merge when I have a lot to write.
Eugh, that's stupid. I should go around saying I'm a professional artist, see where that ends up.
[sp]I suck :([/sp]

Damn it, there's a part missing to this tripod and I want to do a really cool panorama of the opening part of this warehouse I'm going to tomorrow. Tons of graffiti on the wall.

I'm no good photographer and my camera doesn't lend me many possibilities, but on the other hand at least I can take a decent shot when finding something interesting - Like this giant monster in the hallway.
i call it "10 up"

Camera doesn't mean that much (especially in web-resized images), having interesting subject and photographic abilities do...
I have 5d mk2 and I am still not much better than with my previous cameras. But is it fun when I can almost endlessly crop images, fix shitty lighting with great sensor dynamics, and have huge selection in focal lenghts? Oh hell yes.
Snapshots taken by an total idiot with a point-and-shoot can get printed in National Geographic easily if the subject is special. (or paparazzi shots in the sun for that matter) - whereas technically great images of some random bird usually won't.

I haven't been taking many pictures despite having absolutely nothing to do.

First time I was working with an umbrella and I have a feeling I was doing it wrong.
Oooh, I'm gonna go in this building, I wonder what's inside!

Looks pretty cool so far, debris everywhere and some kinda cool graffiti.

Went to a wedding and took a bunch of shots. I need to be more organized about this, I'm not used to picking from thousands of shots accumulated over a weekend. I've got about 30 or so on my .
Here are a few that catch my eye just from glancing over my photostream. I know I used limited subjects, but my little brother is the only person comfortable with me shooting him all the time, and hes the only person I'm comfortable with shooting him all the time haha. I need to get over that. Anyway:

Okay I'm back with a tiny update, I've started to learn "real" photography and these are what I feel to be my best results from today ( I went to a baseball game.)
My friends called me a pedo for taking a shot of this girl, are they right?

So what is the verdict? You can be as hard as you like.

Oh and the little girl with the camera seemed to be very confident in using manual, I feel bad now.
You're subjects are too far to the edge of the frame.
And you are not a pedophile for taking a picture of a little girl. You will be perceived as one, yes. But you have to actually be sexually attracted to children before you can call yourself one. Your friends were likely poking fun, but there are (ALOT) people out there who are quick to judge and modern day paranoia is through the roof.
It's sort of a photography faux pas to take pictures of small children that aren't yours. You really cant get away with taking pictures of people you don't know, period, without being 'creepy'.
We had a discussion a while back about that whole thing with looking like a creep. It helps to be covered in equipment, people will see you as a more professional person than some old dude walking around with a point-and-click taking pictures of kids.
Smile, make eye contact with their parents, even get kind of a visual "Hi there" in the mix and make sure they seem comfortable and understanding that you're taking a random shot.
also it helps not to be a creepy middle-aged hairy fat dude.
