Anything and everything can be motivation, go stack some boxes and take a picture.

No, just the one. I bracketed for a multi exposure but it turned out I didn't need to. I think the room was deceptively light because of the see-through roof.

Something I took before my dinner arrived at this Japanese place last night. Pretty simple but I think it has an aesthetic quality to it.

Well there's the standard package of chopsticks and then a small dish to place soy sauce into for later dipping. The dish is placed upside-down.

^^Very neat indeed! The colors are very surreal; it gives a kind of dream like atmosphere to the image.
I took a short trip yesterday up to the local dam (Norris Dam) and seized the opportunity to grab some pics on such a beautiful day:

Ah ok. Yeah I noticed the chop-sticks, but I had no clue what the little dish was. Cool shot
Also nice dam shots phantom. I think I like the first one the best, but my one complaint is that the sky is so faded.

The only thing that messes it up is the power lines, because it's directly blocking the sun. Otherwise it's good.

Can't see the details on him that well
That's part of what makes the shot, IMO - semi silhouetted.
I think it would have been better with a bit more light on his face. Not much, but just enough to define his facial features.
either that or darken him more. The current lighting leaves me wanting to see a little more definition on him. Even then, the background bokeh is oddly distracting.
on a related note, what tones do you choose when adding split tone? yellow/purple?
I think the most common ones are yellow/greenish for the highlights and blue/purple for the shadows. Tinker around with the midlevels and it should look allright
