e/n: I guess I'm going through a slump, I've lost a lot of creative confidence and while I have a feeling it's irrational and temporary, I've recently had some creeping thoughts about whether or not this is for me. I know in my head that if I keep at it I'll be able to improve and what not, and I've already made a commitment to photography, but I feel like deep down I just don't 'get it' like Latir or Daijitsu seem to. I'm actually feeling this about my whole lifestyle, but it's hit photo stuff the hardest. I'm absolutely in love with photography and would hate to give it up. I wonder if I'm expecting too much of myself. Maybe I should take a break? I don't know, I'm just feeling incompetent. I usually lose a lot of enthusiasm in the colder months so I'm just gunna chalk it up to that.
quit your 365. they're retarded and merely force "creativity" anyway. take your camera with you everywhere you go, and if you see a story, capture it. don't see any stories? then move on with your life and don't stress over it. you'll still get plenty of good pics some other time.
everyone sucks at photography, and most people live uninteresting lives with generic subjects. so if you feel like your images blow, they probably do, but so do 99% of theirs. just keep shooting until you get one worth sharing.
it kills me to see shit like this:
Took about 300 shots today before I burned out and just went with this.
because it means your 365 is merely a job instead of something that will cause you to improve. did I mention I fucking hate 365 projects?
quit your 365.
Interesting perspective. I've definitely felt the 'chore' the 365 immediately became, but I misinterpreted that as a sort of 'growing pain'. I miss the freedom, and not having a 'pressure' to shoot (which I agree is probably a big part of the problem) but I also feel like I've gained a lot from it too. Even though I'm still far from good, I look back at the images I was taking 100 days ago and see more improvement since the year or so I was non-365ing. It might be forceful, but it also keeps me from getting lazy. Maybe not flat out quit the 365, but I think a hiatus is in order.
I hate talking about myself this much. Feels selfish. Thanks guys for the responses.

Selfish? You give to this forum much more than any user expects, I think we can handle trying to help you for once.
I think we all have thoughts about "is this for me" and maybe it isn't, but I think the ones who are really meant for it are the ones who keep going anyway

Trust me when I say you're better than you think you are. No man is a worse critic than himself, and that goes doubly so for art. Fall back on the 365, take pictures only when you find the inspiration. The 365 forces you to take pictures when you're not in the mood, then you look back and see THAT instead of your good works. The process overall boosts your abilities ten-fold without you realizing it, at the expense of some sanity.
We all hit a slump at some point or another, it's just a matter of getting over that hill and coasting down the other side.
My one point of advice to you on your art, though, keep up with the candids, work away from the split tone color editing. It's fine every now and again, you pull it off better than most, but it's a hobby-style. That won't get you far in many professional markets outside of bar and concert photography, both of which I've taken jobs for and can say that it was a rare thing to do even then.

In my eyes 365s are meant to show you that you can't be creative all the time. See what you produce in most uncreative times and it's still usually something better than what you produced before the 365. Also if you want to take a break, then take one. 365s are for you to improve and if it's making you feel like you can't be bothered then just get back to it when your ready again. It's what i did, for like a week.
On an unrelated note it's my birthday in a couple of days and if I get the $600 I need for a canon 500D body then I am going to start the 365. my photography teacher is such an awesome guy, he said "you can borrow any of the lenses whenever you want".
crap, I don't remember if I posted this picture back when I took it, just dug it back up on facebook.

holy shit, speaking of facebook, REKIT from Deviant Art, who happens to have the same name as me and live in the same damn city, just added me on facebook out of the blue and invited me to a photo editing workshop.
HOLY SHIT

He's a hipster leave him alone.
Wow thanks for all the responses guys, it definitely helped to hear everyone's insights.
and Daijitsu, thanks for the advice on the split tones - I have an addiction and this is a great time to break it haha. I will admit I slipped into a split-tone-everything coma.
I love this forum.
We love you too. I hope once I buy a camera I can start contributing to this thread and get some advice. Hopefully soon.
Hey guys, a few years ago I bombed Creationsim Corner with about 6 months of photography and other art. I created quite a few threads showing my work and was trying to look for it the other day.
But looking on my started threads, it only goes back as far as 2009, have the old archives been deleted?
And does anybody know where I can find them?
I hope you guys are enjoying the stuff that I post here every now and then - I'm beginning to put back to this little community recently, here in Creationism. It's such a nice little corner of the internet.

Here's some old stuff from a few years ago from one of those threads:

yeah, old archives were taken down.
Ah, that sucks.
Will the ever be back?
A dump of pictures from my phone. They may not be the best quality, but I like them for some odd reason. Also, I'll be adding a video which is also from my phone. Honestly, I think the video quality is way better than the picture quality.

shrink down your pictures if they're blurry
or don't hold the cam phone so close

It's from my old LG Rumor 2
shits blurry
This better?

a bit, yeah. Blur is a killer, a picture can look sharper when smaller. Sacrificing size for (apparent) quality is a plus when it comes to this stuff.
agreed with dai. sometimes i see a thumbd picture, think its fine, and i click on it and it turns out its blurred to all hell.
Yesterday I had a conversation with a few teachers on college about if I could get points on a few things, one of which was 'Sharing' which meant you had to somehow share your knowledge with other people.
I did this with a blog and copy-pasted my stuff from the General photography thread as it was all mine.
One of the teachers looked at my blog and asked me if I wrote all of that stuff. It almost sounded like he was a bit sceptical about it and so he googled my text and obviously ended up on Facepunch. He then went all 'WELL you said you wrote everything but I am on a website called Facepunch? And a guy with the name 'doubledd' or something has written everything for you it seems. '
I laughed and when I said that it was me, he admitted his defeat and it was all pretty goddamn funny.
Never had a teacher of mine look at Facepunch haha

Haha that could have been a bit weird.
Yeah but it ended up being funny ; )
in that situation with my luck the teacher would just mark it down for plagiarism and give me a 0 for the project with no chance to explain.

:v:
I'd say that shot would have been a little better if you ramped up the aperture to focus more on the guy with the chainsaw and less on everyone else, but it's still lookin' sharp.
