oh yeah i gotta grab my only camera, a sony point-and-shoot with the same noise at ISO 200 that a DSLR would have at 6400
[editline]28th November 2010[/editline]
and shoot some snow
Hard to get good snow photos :saddowns:
Hard to get good snow photos :saddowns:
Indeed.
Is there a trick to that? Or do I just have to try many times?
Just put an object where you're gonna be and focus on that.
Hard to get good snow photos :saddowns:
Easier to shoot when the snow isn't falling. To be honest I think snow falling in the middle of pictures looks terrible.

Or you could just get a cheap remote and use that. My Nikon IR remote was ten bucks.

Do you live in London Latir?
Do you live in London Latir?
I wish, i live in a town just outside of london.

Hmm, I always assumed you were American for some reason.
Hmm, I always assumed you were American for some reason.
I couldn't even imagine myself with an american accent, it may be because i don't often show my surroundings in pictures?

5 minutes later a bunch of drunk people came walking up the road and ruined all the snow :buddy:

A couple of the senior portraits I did for my ex girlfriend today. Thought these turned out pretty nifty.
band photos
First one looks pretty funny!
nice to see you trying something new!
In my opinion, the left photo's the background is to dominant compared to the band's silhouettes. The background being colourful doesn't help either. Although, it's an interesting composition.
In my eyes, the one on the right lacks some sort of connection between the characters. When you're going to do something like this again take a look at how old renaissance painters arranged their characters.

thanks for the advice! i'll try and remember it for next time  by the way it wasn't a serious band photography session. They pretty much done whatever and i just followed them around with a camera! You can click here if you want to see all the pictures i took of them!
Latir, I saw you post in FT's "pictures of you" thread under a different user. What's up with that?
Shit, posted in wrong photography thread.
:saddowns:
So my parents want to buy me a new lens for Christmas, thing is, they want to buy it early so I can use it at my brothers graduation. Can anyone recommend me a lens for a Canon XSi that has a decent zoom and functions well in low light? Looking for around 500.
If you want good low light performance you want a prime. Canon 50mm 1.8 is $100. (Or a +$1000 zoom)
That being said, the Canon 17-85mm is a good zoom but the same maximum aperture as just about any cheap zoom.

In my opinion, some of them are better than the one you posted here: is a better version because the guy in the grey jacket looks at the guy with the black hoodie who looks at the guy on the bunny and the girl looks at you. There is more interaction between the characters. And furthermore, the girl and the bunny guy are out of focus in the shoot you posted here (at least on facebook there are)
However, the best ones are the photos with the children climbing thing and the one with that triangle bus stop or whatever it is...

i see what you mean: in group photos there should actually be something linking them together, maybe them looking at each other?
Yeah exactly, they do not necessary need to look at each other, there are limitless ways to achieve interaction.

I love DoF:

I use it far too much, is it cheating?
i dunno but i reckon it'd be better if the nail's head was in focus
Ahaa I still have a shot of the wall slightly to the right of that nail
It may look a bit better:

It depends what one describes as "cheating".

EDIT: I wouldn't say it's slightly better. I personally think the nail one is much more interesting and catches the eye more than just the side of a wall.
I guess a comparison would be the overuse of photoshop filters
Making something look decent in a cliche kind of way with little effort
