I used to hate carboard packaged CDs, in that even though they don't crack, they do suffer wear on the edges and corners from being handled.
When I got some of the Beatles remasters, at first I thought it was a bit shit they were in cardboard, and Paul was just being an eco-warrior - but after the realisation that they're meant to be just like the LP sleeves I actually quite like cardboard CD cases. I don't handle CDs much anyway, I usually buy them, rip them, then leave them on a shelf.
