Maybe not in terms of production quality, but Akira's story was pretty shit. Made no fucking sense at all.
Still one of my favorite movies.
Fullmetal Alchemist !!!

Yeah I heard they had to adapt it from like a 2,000 page comic or something. Way too much content to really fit in one movie.
'Course I haven't read a single page of the comic, so I don't know if it makes more sense in there.
End of Evangelion

Evangelion 1.0 and 2.0 movies are great, could probably even work for someone who hasn't seen the series although he wouldn't be able to get all the references.
I am looking for good classic anime movies to wacth that are just as epic as Akira
besides
Ghost in the Shell
Ninja Scroll
anything from Miyazaki
I like them to be Rated R (or at least PG-13)
OP HATES naurto
Naruto is not a movie, it's a series.
If you are going to reply that there are movies based on the series well then you already know too much.

What's the big deal? You seem to discredit anything that isn't full movie length or rated R. If that's the case just go watch a live action movie. You seem to be looking in the wrong place.

Both good choices.
I especially recommend Laputa: Castle in the Sky. Wonderful, wonderful movie.

They made it so more people who haven't watched the actual series could understand it iirc
honestly in my opinion though, I feel like 1.11 and 2.22 didn't quite feel like it was as interesting as when I first watched the series; action scenes, on the other hand was revamped and awesome
Not saying anything more until the movie series finishes though
I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone suggest Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade.

Appleseed?
I can really only think of one that hasn't been mentioned already called "the girl who leapt through time"
Pretty good.

Guy came out with another movie recently, "Summer Wars". Damn good movie. It's that same guy who made the digimon movie with the spider tank robot that attacks the internet.

I'd have to agree on that one.
I was always a fan of NGE, and aside from End of Evangelion , none of the movies seemed interesting to me.
At least, not as interesting as the series.
Let me also say that I was hoping the Live Action project would be dead by now. It isn't.
