I agree that we should make a deep sea camera instead of a rocket. It will probably be cheaper, easier and still really cool and not been done before. We have enough programmers that we could easily make the thing autonomous and shit. I am not the best programmer we have, but I would definately contribute my effort.
I swear to god someone made this exact thread like a year ago.
Welp, you'll have an Aerospace Engineer on your side in about... four years :v:
:respek:

So you guys plan on building a rocket to go to space? I doubt this will be possible.
Wow. Also to the guy above its VERY possible - however they will need millions, probably billions of space money :v: to get this shit started, they need to construct a multi-million dollar rocket launch base and shit. What if every single member of Facepunch ever in history would donate say, 5$ for this. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] Not to mention they need the right people aswell.
I think it'd be really cool to build a balloon-dropped unmanned rocket powered hypersonic spaceplane. Kind of like the X-15 or SpaceShipOne just with a balloon instead of a carrier aircraft. It's something that's actually possible. A balloon hoists the UAV to as high as it can go (probably around 50,000 feet) and drops it. Then, the rocket engine ignites, sending the UAV up and out of the atmosphere. Re-entry could be handled by stealing Scaled Composite's feathered design. It could easily house an HD video camera and whatever else we'd want up there and still be tiny enough that it wouldn't be too expensive. We're never going to get anything into orbit, though. Our highest hopes could be unmanned Project Mercury style suborbital ballistic flights dropped from balloons.

A simple payload vehicle compared to a shuttle vehicle is a lot less.
Get a weather balloon. Okay I'm out of ideas
OP, you forgot Hybrid rockets. These use a liquid oxidiser and a solid fuel.
No. You cannot go to space. You are bound to your planet of hate, lost in the jungle of chrome, where the cannibals roam.
Stolen from SA, no thanks.
So lets go to the center of the earth instead! :buddy:
You might want to spell "sacrifice" correctly first.
Do we have to bring our own water guns?
Would seem cool if pulled off but really, who's gonna fund the project?
no! you will be kill by demons!
Does anyone have the link to the thread about going to the moon?
Aren't you in a museum? I don't think you seen action since '69
I am a lunar Lander I do what I damn well please. [editline]14th February 2011[/editline]
chocolate
Ok it is on the way
oh man, we discussed this before, it wont fucking work

fixed the vast unknown page 3
I'm an aerospace engineering student (about 1/2 way through the coursework) so I can offer advice if you need it.
Check back with me in 6 years after I've finished my master's in Aerospace Engineering. EDIT: Didn't notice the post above me, you are awesome. :D
dude i'm in space already what are you talking about
Check back with me in 6 years after I've finished my master's in Aerospace Engineering. EDIT: Didn't notice the post above me, you are awesome. :D
Do you already have your bachelors in AE?
I can see you guys from here, I'll tell you where the rocket is going so you guys can stop by my house for brownies and porn
i was just thinking of this, and someone made a thread about this. so I would love to help out

Hell man even hit the deepest part of the ocean in the 60's. (see: Challenger Deep) Ever since then ROV's have been poking around the bottom. Hello! from the bottom of the sea! Not to mention is something like 16,155 PSI down there.(challenger deep) Whatever you build has to be strong as fuck. With an upcoming explosion in underwater mining operations, certain parts of the ocean have already been sold and surveyed for minerals. There are hundreds of private companies itching to get a spot of land on the floor to mine. They do it with robots that grind up the sea bed. It's a potentially hazardous endeavor for the entire ocean. Though I agree, and hopefully after getting a Ph.D I can do my part to explore the ocean.
Something Awful's responce, probably: "Oh look, the kids are finally growing up!" [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] Also, FAPPING - Facepunch Aerospace Projects Private INitiative of Garry
Serious question, what's going to happen first? Like, the first step in the process?
