Well, I wouldn't say the make the BEST ones, but they are pretty damn good. You should check lenses made by Carl Zeiss, they are fucking amazing.

many nokia lumia cameras have image stabilised lenses and take better than iphone pics imho

But then you have to deal with windows phone OS
iPhone images look good when put through VSCO (which I did there), and uploaded to Flickr as their sharpening algorithm is quite good. Most photos in this thread are from Instagram, so that is why they don't look as good (you lose quality that way)
Stoked for the iPhone 6 if the rumors are true, f1.8 lens and slightly larger sensor. Hoping it stays 35mm, I don't want a 28mm like most phones have.

I think there's an option to export an uncompressed photo when you use instagram.
