UPDATE: The doctor canceled my appointment cause of an "emergency", and since Manitoba is really short on doctors, i can't get any other podiatrist to do my surgery!
An ingrown toneail surgery is very, very bloody from what I've heard.
Wanna know something about the surgery? It hurts like hell. I've been to such surgery twice, and hopefully I don't ever have to go again. It was the same toe, took half a year from the first surgery that the nail was yet again grown into it and it hurt like hell. My toe was completely red and it was hard to walk because it hurt so much. The surgery was also quite a challenge but afterall I feel better now.
So Ive had this ingrown toenail for about a year now, and I'm finally getting it taken care of. Regarding recovery of my toe, anything that i should know? Should i shower with it inside the shower? Is it okay to have sex while recovering? How painful is recovery? Sorry how is this dumb? This is my first experience with an ingrown, sorry for bein a nub with ingrowns!
I just had this a month ago. He numbs it up so much, your toe will grow 2 inches in size and turn yellow. It's fun, you can't feel a thing. Then, he'll take pliars and snip off the part of the nail that is ingrown. Then he takes a needles things and scrapes out all the excess gook and bandages you up. Soak in epson salt for next week.
sex while recovering?
My god! You didn't think you'd be able to have sex while recovering from your ingrown toenail did you? Standard is 3 months of complete abstinence, you must also shower only with full cream milk.
I detect massive amounts of sarcasm in the above post
lol i've had this 4 times. each side of each bog toe... all you do is soak it twice a day, put a bandaid and antibiotic cream on it. nothing else, no pain, no nothing. also you can shower with it
I don't understand why everyone says "see a doctor" with these type of threads It's a fucking ingrown toenail, he's ALREADY seeing a doctor, and wants to discuss the experience with others. What better place than the internet to do that?

I've had an ingrown toenail 2 times. Got it out myself each time, still recovering from the last time (half a month ago, growing new toenail) Wasn't that painful getting it out, cause i took time to do it, only very painful bit was when the half loose toenail got stuck behind a freaking bit of string and it tore it almost off and it HURT LIKE HELL [editline]01:08AM[/editline] Oh, and it only grew in on one side

No wonder you're still recovering! I recovered in a week! You're just a very, very stupid person. If you let a TRAINED PROFESSIONAL do it, it doesn't hurt.

Silly hospitals and their policies.
No your'e not a nub. Well, yes for doing SURGERY on it... I had them [and fucking screwed up so i have them AGAIN...] and i know EXACTLY how to cure an ingrown toenail! OK, so first draw a good hot bath. Get in. Get a whole load of equipment, big nailclipers, normal nailclippers, nail scissors [note these, they are important] and if your nailclippers don't have the little scoopy thing with a file on it; a file and a pair of small tweezers, antiseptic cream, and a brain or two. NOTE: you need ALL of this to get the job done properly! INCLUDING THE BRAIN! Now here's where it starts. If you haven't touched the toe for ages, it might be black and stinky in the ingrown corner. Simply wallow for about 15 minuites, then pick the black skin. With mine, it actually peeled right off because it was dead skin. This will make your work much easier. Now clean the gunk from under the nail, and the 'crevice' alongside it. BE WARNED! IT HURTS! Now screw around with your toe, and get the sharp corner out of the sore. Clean the pus, blood and other gunky crap out of the sore corner using the 'scoopy thing' or the file or small tweezers... Because it's most likely infected, it will KILL to all points end [read red warning]. Now the wound is clean, cut the sharp edge off, but only a ittle bit not too much, or the ingrown toenail will comeback to haunt you! Again, only the sharp point, the bit that is cutting into the wound. Now get out of the bath. Re-expose [and if neccesary re-clean] the wound, and place a tiny dab of antiseptic cream in the woud. This fucking hurts, but it's worth it. Keep it clean, wear FRESH CLEAN socks every day. don't bathe them in bacteria-filled sweat! The ingrown toenails should clear up, providing you keep cleaning the gunk out and putting antiseptic in. Additional cutting wil make it worse, if it cuts in again [point is sharp] file off the sharp point. Let your toenails grow. Soon it will go away, but they will look long and ugly. Cutting your nails, while preventing an ingrown toenail When your nails are long, cut them straight across. DO NOT cut them curved like usual, or they will fuck up and grow ingrown again. And when cutting, don't cut them short, leave them a bit long so when looking from straight above, the nail sticks out a bit farther than our skin... YES they look a bit ugly, but i'd rather an ugly nail than a fucking killer pain every time i touch my tail on something. And forgive spelling errors, i'm using a macbook... the keys are so fucking hard to push...
No, Manitoba is short on doctors, you think if it wasnt i would have another podiatrist do the procedure
Where in Manitoba? Urban or rural? By "urban" I mean Winnipeg, and by "rural" I mean everywhere that isn't Winnipeg.
My friend had an ingrown toenail that was probably about 4 times the size of that front page video and it was all purple and yellow and a blacky-green ooze would come out of it at all times.
3 big fucking needles in your toe and then they take some scissors and snip it right down the middle and then they tug it right out. It feels amazing afterwards.
An ingrown toenail procedure is incredibly simple. I have had around 5 operations now, because I have "pudgy toes." Anyway, the only bad bit is the injection, and I only say that because I'm shit scared of needles. Take a book, magazine, DS, PSP, iPhone, anything to keep you occupied after the injection. Edit: Tell the doctor to let you see the nail he took out afterwards. You will understand why it hurt so much after you see it in all it's largeness.
Do you know how much it cost?
Its free, just go to your doctor and get refered to a podiatrist
I had it done once, the anesthesia needle HURT LIKE A MOTHER FUCKER. The doctor fucking stuffed the needle up my nail, it was like some sort of Chinese torture. But it went well and I'm ingrown toenail free!

All I'll say is, you need lots of pain killers for the first week after the op. Lots of painkillers
You poor thing.
Where in Manitoba? Urban or rural? By "urban" I mean Winnipeg, and by "rural" I mean everywhere that isn't Winnipeg.
Good ol wienerpeg man, i fucking hate this city lol
Had that on both big toes. Fucked the nail on the left completely. it hasn't grown in a couple of years and is a kinda yellow brown colour.

You probably could have sex, just watch where your toe is. There really shouldn't be any pain during recovery, as long as no one steps on it. That would also increase the healing time. Just do as the doctors say and you'll be fine.
The fuck? Surgery? I had an ingrown toenail for 7 months once. Blood, crust, puss everywhere. I got myself a pair of those really small nail cutting scissors that women use and some needle nose pliers(those girly ones dont work, no grip) then I cut the side with the ingrown nail as deep as I could without stabbing myself down the side of the toe. Then with the pliers I grabbed hold and yanked in the direction away from the toe to the side. I ripped all the way down and gushed puss and blood like mad. I recommend biting down on a towel or something. Hurt like motherlovin hell by the feeling of relief was well worth it.
Why create a thread about this, the doctor will answer your questions.

I love seeing pus ooze out for some reason, makes me feel ALIVE!!
