Decently low mileage, great on gas, and reliable.
Considering getting a loan for car.
-17 years old /w steady job
-I make atleast $500/month if not more. Insurance is only $107/month.
-Can easily afford $200/month in car payments.
-Considering getting $1400 loan. It would be paid off by September and if I need a back-up, I'm receiving $2000 of graduation money in May/June (Would prefer to save for school)
-Can sell current car for $500 to parent.
-Parent would be required to get the loan.
Yay or Nay? I already have $200 in the bank plus another $200 coming in on Friday. So $1400 loan + $400 + 500 = $2300. That would get me a suitable car. Then I have a mechanically reliable car that can get me through college/university.
On the other hand, I could save and stick with my current car. It's a 1990 Mazda 323 with 218k (KM) on it. The door-handle recently ripped off, the defrost is somewhat meh and the heat doesn't work well so it's freezing cold to drive atm, CV Joints make a loud clicking noise when turning, Timing Belt is coming loose (again) which means I'm looking at some repairs for this car in my future, which will set me back $100-$400 for saving for a car.
What do?
(Be sure to look at the math. If I have $200/month loan plus $107 insurance, that's $307/month I have to pay. That's $154/paycheque. My average paycheque currently ranges from $258-$330 (Depending if I work 3 or 4 shifts.))
((Oh, and if you would like to be extra nice, you could check out what's available around me. ATM, I'm looking for an automatic CAR. Not a truck/wagon/van. http://usedvictoria.com http://victoria.kijiji.ca http://victoria.en.craigslist.com))
323s are fuckin shit you should smash it

You're not gonna get much with $2300. I'd save your money for now.
323s are fuckin shit you should smash it
Because that gets me to work and school.
where are you in canada?
i may be a little biased but 240sx's are fun, reliable, and cheap.

I live in Victoria, could get a car from Vancouver but the Ferry would be around $160 so it'd have to be a pretty good deal.
There's no nice 240sx's around here. There's one for $1800 but it has a beat-up interior and the guy has a skyline engine for it but wants $2500 for the engine.

if thats all you have a car for than f u

Smashing my car would mean I have no car, and then I wouldn't be able to get to school or work, which are you know, kinda important. Just a little.
Oh, and I don't see why you would say that because I use my car for transportation. Sorry that I don't feel like spending my money on a Ricer-Honda to do burn-outs at intersections and such.

So I have my $400 in the bank. If I get a $1200 loan + $500-$700 for car that's around $2100-$2300.
My car needs new CV Joints and a Timing Belt soon. That's around $400. Plus, the 323 has a whole whack of problems on top of that, and it wasn't a very well-received car to begin with, even when it came out!
My friend managed to pick up a pretty nice 1992 Honda Civic LX for only $1500 so I'm sure I can find something within $2500 that's nice. Only catch is I can only drive automatic.
Someone tell me that a 750 dollar RX7 that "runs good" will not make a reliable daily driver.
That will not make a reliable daily driver.

Still, spergin' so hard over that. :allears:
i have an opportunity to buy either a 1994 toyota celica, or a 1998 bmw 740iA
any suggestions?
Celica just because the BMW will be expensive.
i could also get a 2003 lancer for around 3000$ and put about 1k of parts in it. Also i have 4000$ to spend on a car
A Lancer would be a nice reliable DD but I wouldn't spend any money trying to upgrade it unless it's into the sound system or something.
alright, thanks.

yeah a $4000 1998 bmw is gonna have a shitload of problems
honestly for $4000 look at maybe a used miata if you're looking for performance

why not a v6? and also i am looking into getting a car under $4000 and pretty fast/ good on insurance, i know its a small window of cars.
well it depends on what you mean pretty fast. when i think pretty fast i think low 13's high 12's in the quarter mile.

He's not going to get something pretty fast/good on insurance for under $4,000. You might be able to get something reasonably sporty, but you're not going to get any kind of a screamer.
[editline]16th January 2011[/editline]
A 2000 Mustang GT (an older V6 Mustang isn't really worth getting) with 100,000 miles has a KBB value of $6,000 in excellent condition. A $4,000 2000-04 Mustang would be beat to hell.
you can get a sr20 swapped 240 for about that and it will keep up with a mustang gt
I live in york pennsylvannia
