for camping, I'd suggest the Crystal Cove state park/beach cottages but they are most likely booked solid for this entire summer. They are pretty neat though because they are right on the beach and not far from Newport and Huntington Beach.

Long beach has some nice areas. When I go to University, I plan on visiting all the coastal cities regularly.
Camping in Big Bear with adults/minors that don't really know each other... That doesn't sound like the best idea ever if you ask me. Not to mention if you're throwing in drinking and drugs (You being 18, not a good idea!).
More people would probably go if you were to do a day meeting somewhere, because honestly I don't see many under aged FPers willing to meet complete strangers over the internet and go camping with them. I live in SoCal and I can't see myself camping with a bunch of strangers on the internet. Plus you're basically exposing minors to alcohol, you yourself being considered under the legal age. Drugs are everywhere there's no point in trying to control that but having drunk 16-20 year olds sounds like it could potentially go wrong.
