• Hey Garry, why'd you remove some of the tags, and can we those back?
it still means nothing in reality because garry can do precisely whatever he wants with FP regardless of how stupid you and I think his decision may be
You're right, he can do whatever he likes, there's no debating that. That doesn't mean he should.
Why do you want them back. If you can provide a logical reason for each tag, they will come back.
I used [sub] tags to hide things in the post that I didn't want to be in the post, but still wanted to be there for when people reply. Kind of the same thing as the table though, not it's intended purpose.
Garry's "real forum" sounds boring as hell, to be honest.
You're right, he can do whatever he likes, there's no debating that. That doesn't mean he should.
maybe, i thought it was a silly change but oh well in any case there's only one person you have to convince to get the tags back and that person is probably not going listen if you make a sarcastic remark
whats the harm in having a tag stay in if it's only used occasionally even does it use up extra resources or something
I used [sub] tags to hide things in the post that I didn't want to be in the post, but still wanted to be there for when people reply. Kind of the same thing as the table though, not it's intended purpose.
I personally found it useful for disclaimers. Which is necessary because I always assume that at least one moron is not going to see that my post claiming we should just drop all unwanted babies in a dumpster for parents to pick up and adopt or whatever is not meant to be serious. Not its intended purpose, but we don't really have a [disclaimer] tag, and it's far less tacky than [sp], so...
If the tags aren't in the forum anymore, can they at least be removed from the editor?
I personally don't care for the table tags, making fancy OPs is kinda a waste of time IMO, but I don't understand the removal of SUP and SUB, were they causing any problems?
Also what was point of disabling tags entirely in visitor messages? Is it really wrong to be able to use formatting there?
I've noticed that Garry removes features from the forum / Gmod on multiple occasions because of how he feels something "should" be used when they're are plenty of other non-malicious / useful reasons to utilize them outside of that perspective. Example from this post:
I don't know why you want to align stuff. I don't agree that people should be spending lots of time formatting their posts, it's not what forums are for.
And yes, I understand the whole its Garry's forum / game he can do what he wants, but I don't understand the logic of removing something because it doesn't conform to how Garry sees its purpose. I'm not trying to be an asshat, so sorry if I come off that way.
If you guys want a good example of how this update has fucked up some threads, just look at the dota 2 general chat thread. It looked really nice and tidy before, with all the information layed out in a format that was easy to read and browse. Without it, it'll just look like a bunch of boring images and links.

How many people genuinely look at OPs? Legitimate question. There are a lot of times when people clearly don't bother to read an OP because the question they're asking is explicitly answered in the OP. Every time it happens I feel like all the effort put into the OP is wasted effort.
I used it as a table??? for trading card exchanges although i was about the only one that made mine like that
I don't know why you want to align stuff. I don't agree that people should be spending lots of time formatting their posts, it's not what forums are for. You might think it's very important to have the first post in a thread to have hundreds of images and have everything laid out like it's a website. But it's not. It's a post in a forum.
who defines 'what forums are for'? Surely the community should be making that definition; if the people want to format their posts a specific way they should be allowed to. What's the point in removing tags when they can't possibly be putting any noticeable extra load on servers It feels like you're trying to force the users of the forum to adhere to your arbitrary views on how people ought to post, which is silly
I don't know why you want to align stuff. I don't agree that people should be spending lots of time formatting their posts, it's not what forums are for. You might think it's very important to have the first post in a thread to have hundreds of images and have everything laid out like it's a website. But it's not. It's a post in a forum.
I think it's important to have the first post in a thread to be appealing and organized. You promote proper posting, extensive threads and creativity then take away the tools that we've been using to make those things? We're not going to spend any less time on our posts because we don't have tables, in anything we'll spend more time trying to make our threads interesting so that people take the time to read them. I bought Guild Wars 2 because it's thread was so well done that I became interested, and after reading about it I decided I wanted it! If you really want us to spend less time formatting threads, then give us tools that make it faster. Being able to center blocks of text or having horizontal lines work would make it a lot easier. Another thing I'd like to add is that some of us really enjoy making good looking threads. Swanky made his 3DS megathread look really good, and he used to get excited about adding new content to it. I had fun making my Xbox One thread (up until everyone hated the Xbox One), and I would routinely go check out the Guild Wars 2 thread just because it looked so good. If you don't want us to spend time formatting posts, Facepunch would be better off as one of those weird image boards. I'd understand if you were refusing to add a brand new feature to the post editor, but to remove one because people are spending too much time trying to match the standard you've set with the great looking forum layout? I can't agree with you on that one.
At the end of the day you're just throttling the ability of the users to not only develop their own formatting language (the use of [sub] tags to denote a hushed voice, etc) but you're stifling what would otherwise be a voluntary and natural progression for many users into a more formal and more nicely presented table-based OP structure
when it all boils down to it, who the fuck wants to read a novel every time they open a thread? i.e. there's a reason "graphic design" is a thing, so that people don't want to gouge their fucking eyes out when they look at something in a store or in a newspaper. [editline]23rd July 2013[/editline] maybe garry doesn't want to run a forum so he's trying to alienate all of his users into dropping FP :v:
Only change that would make practical sense would be removing the ability to nest sub and sup tags inside each other, that was only used to make text unreadable
Good thing all the logical reasons listed will be completely ignored :/
Good thing all the logical reasons listed will be completely ignored :/
Garry's forum. Garry's rules. I believe he's said this in the past over other things.
Garry's forum. Garry's rules. I believe he's said this in the past over other things.
Garry said he'd give back tags if we had logical reasons for bringing them back.
Civ V Megathread's

WAYWO
Wow, these two threads' OP only confirm Garry's reasons for removal... There's more formatting than there is actual content.
Garry said he'd give back tags if we had logical reasons for bringing them back.
The logical reasons have been stated multiple times, only to be responded to with "Nah." I have no problem with the removal of Table tags, but I do have a problem with extremely limited formatting options.
What the fuck garry, what's wrong with making a forum look good? Using your reasoning, why do we even have customizable titles, or avatars? "This forum is for posting, not showing off your dick!!!!11"
The logical reasons have been stated multiple times, only to be responded to with "Nah." I have no problem with the removal of Table tags, but I do have a problem with extremely limited formatting options.
It never hurts to try.

And because they're a way for him to make money.
Because we can give a faggot a bad title to make sure they have a harder time being taken seriously. And because they're a way for him to make money.
Or you could give a cool person a title that describes them... [sub][sub]like me[/sub-- oh wait.
