• Hey Garry, why'd you remove some of the tags, and can we those back?

By the way what was point of disabling tags entirely in visitor messages?
gotta love the sense of entitlement you people have
It's probably been mentioned already, but I think the [sub] and [sup] tags should be here for writing maths with, though that's probably not what they were mainly being used for when they were removed.
gotta love the sense of entitlement you people have
i dont think it qualifies as entitlement issues to have useful features taken away just because (and in one case because it's easier than fixing it) [editline]e[/editline] but it doesn't really matter, garry's not going to bring them back (despite saying he would bring them back if people provided reasons why, apparently) so i guess 2013 is the year of left-aligned text
People didn't give me a good reason why. Formatting OPs isn't a good reason IMO. It's a forum, you post text and images. This obsession with creating really dense OPs needs to end.
Every other forum I've ever been on has big infodump OPs that are very useful, especially in subforums pertaining to games Nothing is more annoying than someone coming into a thread every ten posts like HEY WHATS THIS GAME ABOUT HOW DID I PLAYS and having big OPs is helpful because they're the first thing you see when you come into the thread. Like, I get that it's your forum and you can do what you want, but saying big OPs and megathreads aren't useful (or necessary, even) is just plain incorrect. [editline]e[/editline] Is it possible to go on without them? Yeah. Is there any harm in keeping them? Personally I don't think so.
What did you expect? Did you think this thread was going to change my mind?
You were perfectly happy to listen to our feedback about touching up the forum graphics. IIRC that little red line up the top was a community choice, so why aren't you listening this time round?

Lists are the only ones I can see maybe worth bringing back as it was a nice formatted way of listing data which people do in their posts but you can counter this by basically typing it out like: Example: - Shit - Shit - Shit - Shit Also talking about things being removed. Was this intentional Garry? Youtube, Twitter and a few more user icons miss the img markup so they have no icons.
Of course it's intentional, it's a forum not an "advertise your youtube and twitter" website. If you want to have images for your youtube and twitter buttons you can go make your own forum with them :downs:

[editline]26th July 2013[/editline] People have given you plenty of good reasons, you've just ignored them because they aren't what you want to hear.

Guess what? You can still put info in the OP! If the Fallout thread can have info on every Fallout game with links to useful sites or mods as well as past threads all without the shit that got removed, then I'm sure every other thread can do just fine. I don't know why you people think not being able to move text/images back and forth means you're not allowed to type anything in an OP. [editline]25th July 2013[/editline]
People have given you plenty of good reasons, you've just ignored them because they aren't what you want to hear.
Your reasons have pretty much been "Because we want it" and "The forums suck without them, we can't post anything anymore"
I don't agree that people should be spending lots of time formatting their posts, it's not what forums are for.
Well, that's not exactly true. There isn't anything in particular regarding the format of forums that denies the possibility. The original post is only really read by people who don't know anything about the subject, while the discussion happens on the last pages of a 200-page thread. You're not supposed to write an entire bloody wiki-page about it in the OP, but if you really want to keep OPs small and concise, the imageboard-format where old threads get purged once they don't get posted in anymore is better: the fact that the old thread will be purged encourages small OPs, because nobody wants to write something massive that then gets purged after a few days. TL;DR: If you don't want people writing massive OPs, why are you using a forum and not an imageboard? Forums are brilliant for massive OPs, because you only have to see the damn thing once, max.

I already know he won't bring the tags back, I'm just saying that infodump OPs are definitely more useful than he gives them credit for, and I really would like to hear his definition of a forum because the megathread thread structure is pretty much universal.
Okay garry. Let's look at this another way. Let's imagine you are Sir Garry, the owner of a magnificant country, we'll call it: Gasmaskistan. Now, you, as the ruler of this wondrous land. Want to make it as attractive as possible because you want your population to be happy. Therefor, you give them a treat, you give them bricks. A magical tool which they can use to create their own buildings, which they can use for many different purposes. Like organizing a group of dungeon explorers, or a society for discussing their obsession with watching funny pictures. Anyways, this has been going on for a while, and though the bricks are serving their purpose. The buildings which the people have been working on, haven't exactly been... good looking. [img_thumb]http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/120/6/c/minecraft_brick_stone_house__exterior__by_vinboy1999-d63js8g.png[/img_thumb] And the people have been very VERY vocal about this issue. So what did you do to fix this? Earlier, the only thing that has been keeping these buildings together, were each other. Seriously, people have been stacking bricks over and next to one another, and nothing were holding them together. Sure, the people were careful not to knock these bricks over, but you were restricted. Restricted to only creating crappy one dimension buildings which were horrendous to look at. They lacked complexity and any uniqueness. They were dull. But all this changed when you gave the people CEMENT. With this, people were able to hold the bricks together and create unique structures. People finally knew what was what, and they liked it. Infact, they liked it so much, that they made sure that all the building in Gasmaskistan were using this new and wonderful creation. Gasmaskistan became totally dependent on cement for holding the buildings together and keeping the people happy by creating unique and wonderful to look at structures. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ZDegCdA.jpg[/img_thumb] But for some reason, Sir Garry. Didn't find these new architecture necessary. Why waste resources when both of these buildings serve the same purpose? He said, and without questioning anyone, he promptly went ahead and magically removed all the cement in the country. Everything went chaos, buildings fell apart, people were furious. WHY?, WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO US!? The people screamed. And the people only got one answer from the lord. Because I don't like it. Replace Gasmaskistan with Facepunch, bricks with words, cement with tags, and buildings with threads. Now garry, do you see how wicked this all sounds?
wow so much effort for nothing i bet ur proud of that post too
Actually, I was bored and had nothing to do, it took like 10 minutes tops to create that post and I didn't create those structures in minecraft if that is what you are wondering. I got them off google.

I'm not gonna way in on this Garry, but could you give an example of a forum that's doing it 'right'? Maybe it'll give people a better idea of what you want with Facepunch.
It would be nice to have some explanation about what you gained by removing these tags.
I say load performance - because instead of tables, people are now going to put more spacer images in and that's totally better. Just furious users so far.
I miss the header
tag. It organized my Max Payne megathread. :(
also please fix gd thread ordering [editline]25th July 2013[/editline] just saying
I say load performance - because instead of tables, people are now going to put more spacer images in and that's totally better.
I don't know why you want to align stuff. I don't agree that people should be spending lots of time formatting their posts, it's not what forums are for. If they're just "a post in a forum" they shouldn't have any specific rules of their own.
