I wish I could have fired a rifle at age 7. In Australia the majority of civilians who are allowed to own rifles/shotguns are farmers or people with land and a reason (culling kangaroos and hares), so I've had a go at a couple of .22's (all bolt-action/lever action, no semi's allowed).

.30 carbine seriously isn't anything in terms of recoil and is hardly 'strong' in that aspect. Though I do have some concern like you that stuff with serious recoil would cause developmental problems bone wise if done repeatedly over time.
