Like this number one hit single which was made by two guys trying to make the worst hit song.

They then wrote a book about it called The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way)
Pop music. So simple, yet such a large percentage of the 'artists' don't even write their own music.
Who do you want to be as successful as?
Bonny Tyler

Dave Grohl on how to keep the mansion running with rock hits.
The same theories can be applied to ANY music genre within the western popular music industry. It's not a matter of how good you sound, it's a matter of how attractive you look and sound and if it makes money or not, and if you fit those requirements it also takes a great deal of luck to get noticed.
However I am glad the internet exists because without it, we would be scrounging around stores in hopes of finding good unheard of music, but now we can do research and find really good music from all around the world.
Pop music will ALWAYS exist, just like big shitty Hollywood transformer movies or huge budget modern warfare type games.
Is it bad that I like Talk Dirty? It samples a good song and I think it actually improves on it. I am aware of its flaws, though, so I guess it's more of a guilty pleasure than anything.
This was the first time I heard the song, so I became more fond of it than I would have.
The vocal processing crap has gotten ridiculous. Take this for example:

Oh my god he's 100% tone deaf
my god he's cracked the code

the original is better
and when the original is a jason derulo song you know that it's shit
Holy shit these really do work.
I've literally had that Basoon bit stuck in my head all goddamn week.
Oh my god he's 100% tone deaf
He's not tone deaf, he just can't control his voice
He knows it sounds like shit but he can't do anything about it
Heh, very true. His finished song is actually quite addictive, it's surprising how easy it is to get hooked on a short simple tune like that.

I usually like songs like this one but this is so shitty. I never thought I'd call a vintage song lazy but, since you're making a vintage song, you should at least try to avoid saying things like "booty", because when you use those slangs outside of rap songs it's cringe-worthy.
Does anyone have that song where the same principles but they just say random Spanish words?

Here is a version featuring a retarded amount of 'autotune' (still sounds awful). I'm not sure if it was just edited for the sake of the video, or if it was like that live aswell.

I just love how his partner always look spaced out.
Is it wrong that I kinda want a more serious remix of this?
I miss the times where like, Alice in Chains and R.E.M were on the top 40 lists.
But that kind of music still exists today, you just gotta dig deeper to find it.
depends where you live. in the UK there are art-pop bands in the top ten every time they release an album
examples:

if anything i'd argue that these bands and their popularity show a far more interesting trend in pop music now than saying "wow the days when REM were in the charts were way better". i like REM but they're not very cutting-edge or interesting. they were a great rock/pop band. some of their stuff was downright terrible, some of it was great
the fact that there's now a market for alternative 'art' bands so big that they can consistently get in the top ten is way more interesting
I mean the guy obviously has some talent at recording quality vocal takes and instrumentation, and knows how to produce. I'm not defending the shittyness of most pop songs these days, but it's not like any old person could load up garage band and sing into their onboard mic and get the results he just showed. He probably spent more time than most people who read this thread realize getting it to sound how it did.
That being said, most popular music is so popular because of its simplicity. No one wants to hear complex counterpoint composition and such in top 40 music. It just doesn't work. Any producer worth their salt could make any number of cliche beats/instrumentals for pop songs, its a matter of so many other things (like being already famous for one).
On the other hand, lyrics in pop music are complete tripe.
While this is true, the average person is honestly not far off from making a decent sounding song. Sure, the software is expensive, but I started using FL Studio back in like 2004. I was eight years old and had no idea how to make a song, but I was able to start making songs and I'm obviously a lot better today. I think it's a matter of the accessibility of music making equipment.
