Don't worry, the guns themselves are incredibly robust, especially the SCW2s. The only issue is finding rectangular gaskets for the mag base.

So one of the four fields we have here, Kapolei Airsoft, closed down because they weren't getting enough players (admittedly I never played there). The owner is liquidating everything so today I met up with him and got a CYMA M14 Socom and 1 highcap and 1 midcap for $70. It was one of his personal guns and he only used it twice so it's in fairly good condition.

They did, I know the general risks of owning it, but not as specific as the gasket. Nonetheless it was a worthy purchase, the issue that the seller had advertised with it (not firing consistently) and the cause of me getting it for so cheap was a problem with the grip safety.
When firing it right handed, the grip safety doesn't disengage properly as a result of it not being pressed hard enough in the right way, but shooting it left handed like I do with any rifle/pistol causes the grip safety to disengage properly. I'm not sure why it acts that way, but it's in my favor regardless.
For $90 with a pistol case, an extra slide, and two mags i'm not going to complain.

Also I have no idea what to put on that rail. The cheapo china red dot I have on my g36 looks out of place that far up on the handguard. I'm thinking Aimpoint CompM2/3/4?

Low T1 looks really good mounted forward IMO. Could also get a pistol scope for the long eye relief and make a scout rifle.

Be careful with the bolt and if the middle rail bothers you, get the full heat shield. They're pretty easy to come by and the socom 16 looks fantastic with the normal scope mount. There are also short mags from MAG if that floats your boat. The selector switch gets REALLY wobbly so be careful with that and if anything, remove (if that's an option, I don't know if that will affect the function of the gun) or replace it from evike. The front sling mount will break. It's kind of a universal constant.

I've had two of those SOC16s. They're my favorite AEG and I would definitely buy another given the opportunity.

Depends what time period you are looking at:
Falklands and Northern Ireland the SAS and SBS used the original AR15 (Triangular handguard, 3 prong flash hider and without the forward assist) and in Op Granby (Gulf war I) the M16A2 with a 203 was common.

G&P would be your friend for both of them though I would pop a guarder hop bucking in as soon as you get it home or ask the store to do it for you as the latest G&P rifles have had utterly shit hop buckings. (We now install a King Arms one before shipping, for free as no one wants to spend 2-300 on a gun and have the range of a wet fart)

If you're going to go with the G3 (which is my personal recommendation if you can't find an XM16E1/AR-15), get the JG one from Airsoft Megastore. AMS is pretty ok abut their shipping and service, it's just fun to laugh at how they like to lie about all their prices being the lowest and all their guns shooting 600 FPS.

The JG G3/T3 should only cost you around $115-125
