you should chop the barrel too. Put the front sight right up next to the gas block
I have a bottle of Birchwood-Casey gun bluing and I might see if it would take to any of the metal, I know some parts like the stock and dust cover are steel so they should take for sure. But I also wanted the finish to wear on it own through use.
