how's your hopup?
how's your hopup?
Well, i really dont know. I know it's RHopped. Other than that, i'm not sure.
true DMR by airsoft standards. As in, a whole extra 50 feet of accurate fire. [editline]10th June 2014[/editline] I hold no fairy tale dreams of being the bestestest gnu evar
Yeah, and I'm telling you you're not gonna be even close to an airsoft DMR. What did you think I was saying, your airsoft gun isn't as accurate as a real steel DMR? Is your gun semi-locked so it can meet field DMR rules? What's your gearbox compression and fps like? How good is your trigger response, what MOSFET are you using? What modifications have you made to the infinitely shitty AR styled hopup? How have you sealed in your barrel/hopup? What stabilization methods have you used to secure the inner barrel to the outer? What BB weight (and brand) is your gun optimized for? I put more work into all of my gun's hopups than you're putting into a supposed "DMR". Store-bought parts and a few minutes of work do not a DMR make.

I'm doing what i can right now with the money and time restraints that i have. [editline]10th June 2014[/editline] What i'm saying is that it'll all be upgraded down the road. Everything. What i can do right now, though, is what i AM doing. I am not risking the functionality of my rifle so close to this op by doing tech work i am not ready for.
The guy didn't even have a scope...

I think the point is that there's too many people who mislabel a gun as a DMR just because they did simple upgrades that most normal guns should have. I mean there's people in r/airsoft that go like "I put a vert grip and tightbore in my gun nao its dmr" The guy didn't even have a scope... People act like DMR is like super gun with sniper rifle range and can shoot full auto and just do the role of a sniper, rifleman, and machine gunner all together because the ranges in airsoft are so short to begin with. [editline]10th June 2014[/editline] http://www.reddit.com/r/airsoft/comments/27q0n0/good_spotter_setups/ Here's a pretty good example of misunderstanding the role of a DMR. [editline]10th June 2014[/editline] http://imgur.com/a/CwRre And here's another guy who doesn't know the role of a DMR.
Trust me when i say i know what i intend to use my rifle for. Semi-auto, distanced engagements where i have the advantage of superior accuracy and ranged fire. A friend of mine as a spotter with a carbine to watch my back. I have zero intention of trying to use my rifle on fully-automatic. That would be a waste of what i am trying to accomplish.

(this is an airsoft thread in the airsoft section) (we are/were talking about dmrs in an airsoft context, not a real steel context)
(this is an airsoft thread in the airsoft section) (we are/were talking about dmrs in an airsoft context, not a real steel context)
shouldn't the same rules apply excluding the live ammunition? or are we making up new ones as we go
These rifles have to be effective, in terms of accuracy and terminal ballistics, at ranges exceeding those of ordinary assault rifles and battle rifles (typically 250 m or 270 yd or less, and up to 500 m or 550 yd, respectively) but do not require the extended range of a dedicated sniper rifle (typically employed for targets at ranges from 500–2,000 m or 550–2,190 yd).
while ossum's gun may be able to make 50 extra feet with his new barrel, the chances of him consistently and accurately reaching out to that distance with no other performance tweaks are very low, hence why i wouldn't call it a true dmr [editline]10th June 2014[/editline] barring a miracle, its performance characteristics are going to be very close to the gazillion other airsoft ARs with precision barrels chucked in them
I'm having terrible flashbacks to when my high school friends thought "DMR" meant 500+ FPS spring. And getting shot in the face within 20 feet by said "DMR"

Not saying Ossum isn't going to go through with making his gun proper, but its just kind of ridiculous to think that a work in progress gun with an Rhop qualifies as a finished product that is defined by being significantly better than an average gun.
