Holy shit those wear jobs though jesus christ mmmmmm
the one in the back is a bit better. the one I build up will be cerakoted burnt bronze though.
Welp, that's gonna look like mallcop garbage then, but you do you, man. As long as you're happy with it ;)

I guess. I dont think what I'll be making will look like mallcop/mallninja trash but everyone has likes and dislikes. I did the worn look for a while but never really found a look that I enjoyed.
but that just like, your opinion maaan.
Well it's basically that there are a few things that will make your gun absolutely SCREAM "civilian owned" and not "milsim". This can go from LE at best to mall ninja at worst.
This includes Keymod rails, 90% of civilian aftermarket accessories, ANY magpul furniture or accessories but pmags and actual magpuls, cerakote, hydrodipped parts or accessories, any barrel that is not 14.5" or 11.5" (or shorter lengths), inforce lights, DBALs, the list goes on but I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.
And, no, that doesn't have to be a bad thing, but I just wanted to issue the warning that it's not going to look explicitly "military" since, to my knowledge, almost no one in the military has ever cerakoted anything.
But yeah, it can still look nice, especially to you, and that's what it's all about baby!
[editline]17th July 2014[/editline]
Oh and I mistyped/spoke about the magpul thing, generally magpuls stocks are totally fine I meant more about the handguards and such nonsense.
Man, I still wish they made a cheap DBAL-A2 replica
She's here!

Just waiting on the barrel mount rail things and extra mags. Going to order the P* V3 engine later next week after paychecks come from my pimp. I've been whoring myself around town for quite a while for this baby.
Im surprised how kickass the stock kit and hop up is on this gun. Out of the box I was hitting Nato-dog sized groupings about 200ft away.
Shot like 360fps with 0.28s which was a little hot. So I switched the Orga 6.13 from my AK and put it in this. Now getting like 320-330fps/0.28s
Unfortunately the RealSword PSO-1 doesn't work on it :( Its got a little piece that sticks out and doesn't let it align on the mounting rail thing.
Plastic magazine, pistol grip and handguards feel like cheap shit but still strong and it doesn't warp. Im going to take them out later and spray some clear protective spray paint on them so they feel a little rougher and nicer.
unscrew the scope diode (the piece sticking out)

that shittily sharpied on magwell serial
unscrew the scope diode (the piece sticking out)
* - actually its a bit more of that piece. Not just the diode. I'll have to get a riser for the mount so its slightly higher.
That's because the receiver is off-spec from the real one. Red-Alliance has known about that problem all along.
I would probably sell a kidney for a P* AS VAL. Oh god that's beautiful.
Took a month to arrive but ah well.

Had to sand the hand-guard down a little to fit but now it sits more snug than the original!
Next up is painting the thing in the same colours as my KZM.
Black, Tan and woodland green.
Also digging my new teams attitude towards gear and replicas; Do whatever the fuck makes you happy and wear what looks comfortable to you.

I guess my rail covers arent arriving before I leave town, so yeah. WIP:

The rail is much less bronze than in the pictures, even in very direct light. Guess its just something about the camera. Even in this one, it looks almost black.

My cousin has that rail, and after seeing it in person i dont think i wanna make a faithful Mk18.
Im gunna take another look at it before i decide.
Its probably the nicest rail I've ever owned. Not quite as comfy as the TRX, but its correct for my kit. The machining is all really clean and it feels very, very solid. Almost on par with the KA M8 rail as far as that goes.
a late night of boredom leads biscuit to the startling conclusion that the MSKs paint job is simply not conducive to a sexy wear job. Likewise he now has a two-tone gun as the lower receiver has formed a near-invincible bond with the paint

FWIW I think it still looks pretty ballin
if you could get the black a little bit lighter/less brand new looking it would look a lot cooler.
One day :(
apply steel wool???
Scotch-brite pad. That's what we use to weather AK's lol
Kinda relevant:
In your subject title, you asked about the "best and easiest"... I'm not sure there is a such thing. Best OR easiest may be a better question. I'd say the best way (in my opinion) is to disassemble everything and hand work each piece to give it the look you want as an individual part. This "hand work" may mean using a hammer, torch, wire brush, reanodizing in a different color, sandpaper, acid, lye, etc. then reassembly. If you want the easiest way, (again, in my opinion), leave it put together or take apart the easy stuff and hit it with a wire brush.
I think sometimes the lines between "simulated wear and patina" and "polished with fine steel wool" get blurred, and they really are two distinct and different looks. I am also of the opinion, going the extra is worth the effort and time in the long run.
I hope this helps you out.

Images might be on the extreme side (not sure just how weathered you wanna go with it) but the basic concept is still more or less the same.

I got those for my CYMA CM040 and I still had to file down a bit.
I don't want to weather my 602 THAT much, but i'd love to get it looking worn out and like it's seen some shit. My brother and i were trying some weathering techniques out a while ago and everything we tried just takes all of the edges off instantly and looks like shit.
I'll have to try some scotchbrite pads.
I used a combination of iron wool and a wire brush on my M4 to give it a lightly worn look and it worked fine. maybe try something very fine and just working over the receiver to wear off the paint/give it that burnished look?
Got any pictures as an example? I can't recall the last time you posted it to go back and look :(
[t]http://i.imgur.com/PdIOhfk.jpg?1[/t]
nothing really major, just a little weathering on the magwell, brass deflector, and forward assist and a few other places I noticed normally got worn down quickly on issued M4's. like here
