Well, no they did use the GAU designation for the CAR-15, and probably a few other things too that you don't mount to aircraft. It's really kinda in how you interpret what Gun Aircraft Unit means. It's not called Aircraft Gun Unit.

If a game had animations as smooth with as much weight as this it would be the greatest thing ever holy shit.
We have motion capture for full body animations, why not for smaller things?
BF3 is pretty good when it comes to weapon animations. The guns move like they are actual guns with weight and not pieces of cardboard. (Queue pics of taiwanese's cardboard guns)

I dunno, I always chuckle a bit at the way the player casually slaps the feed tray cover on a machine gun and it locks in place.
As for why full-body mocap isn't a thing for games, it's because full-body mocap isn't quite perfect either- it loses a lot of really subtle movements, which are then added in later during processing. For weapon reload animations it wouldn't save a lot of time over doing them from scratch.
Also, because full-body mocap is extremely resource-intensive and trying to replicate the complex system of joints and muscles to get realistic animation is very taxing.
Well it obviously isn't perfect but hey, it's better than most games at the moment.
Me and The_Killer are going to convert it to stanag soon, plus change in the inner barrel and do some general gearbox cleaning and lubing, as well as repainting (some of the paint came off because I didn't clear coat it so I gotta re-paint the scraped areas then clear coat)
maybe then it wont suck so much
