Is STO free to play yet?
Possibly getting there.

Thought that was cool.

I played the beta, and found the ship combat pretty fun, went back to look at it later, and saw they had an item shop that would make a Korean's head spin.

It's all purely cosmetic, save for a few ships. Thing is, though, it doesn't affect the balance one bit. No one ship is superior to another.

Is the ground combat still soul-crushingly awful?
Is the ground combat still soul-crushingly awful?
Nope. They added a shooter mode. It's the only innovation I've seen in an MMO for quite some time.
I really hope they start a new tv series soon, i'm at season 5 on DS9 after that there is no more star trek series or films left to see, and i want more!

Eh, I'm afraid they'll just make it another Stargate Universe. I think if Star Treks idealistic themes are no longer relevant to today's tastes, they should leave it dead.
There's still the 2009 Trek's sequel coming out in a couple of years.
There's still the 2009 Trek's sequel coming out in a couple of years.
It's scheduled for release in June/July of 2012.

No, it was delayed to Holiday 2012 or Spring 2013.
Gi-Joe 2 is now coming out in July.
So have any of you seen Galaxyquest?
So they are rumours pointing toward a TNG Remastered in HD
http://trekmovie.com/2011/07/26/report-tng-on-blu-ray-coming-in-2012/
Which could possibly be in Widescreen because according to a Trek podcast I listen to, TNG was filmed with cameras normally reserved for movies (which would be in widescreen) then transferred to a lower Resolution film to do special effects and TV airing.
Now, if they still have the Original footage, then we might be seeing widescreen TNG.
But we probably won't since they'll probably want to keep the original feel of TNG, with an updated look.

That would be awesome! I hope they do it to DS9 too since that one is my favorite!

I do think that there is a lot of potential for a future series. Maybe something centered around the 29th century, with time ships.
I'm currently re-watching Star Trek Enterprise with my brother, we are currently at the end of season 3, and i gotta say it's a really great season, really dark and it got an interesting story.
the show started getting better around Season 3, season 4 was the best tho.
Recognize it?

No, think of the movies.
Here is another hint, look at the plasma ball heading for me.

Ooh. V'ger?
[editline]27th August 2011[/editline]
Also, I renewed my STO sub. I'm at Captain 4, captaining the good ship Normandy.
And I got my character name as Shepard :v:.
I hope this game gets a trial version soon so that i can test it!

A new series in the works - but yet to be pitched. Foster has certainly done his homework and planned out seven years worth of content.

There was one. They turned it off. Don't think they ever turned it back on. All this talk of F2P though..
Yeah, things have been a little rough for STO. Atari was a sack of shit and did nothing in the way of support, so Perfect World is doing what they can to help Cryptic make STO all the more awesome. They've really done so much with it, it's astounding.
Perfect World wants the Klingons at even footing with the Feds in terms of content and they're giving cryptic money to do it.

I think we need an idealistic show. People need to remember that war should be avoided at all costs and that when faced with a catch 22, you can still find a third option.
That's my take on it anyways. I watch a lot of Mobile Suit Gundam(which is to Japan what ST was to the US) and they're always full of idealistic, anti-war themes and characters.
Perfect World has confirmed that STO will be going F2P.
