1 hour and 27 minutes till he is executed. God damn it I hope someone can stop this or something. I don't want an innocent person dying because Texas wants to be a stubborn prick about it.

what
I find it interesting how the reddit article makes him out to be some average joe caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, but was really a transient drug dealer with a history of psychotic behavior.

You guys have been spending a week demanding this person be set free or given a retrial when the only thing you've been given is an internet article saying he's innocent along with the shaky testimony of a murder accessory during their sentence hearing (ever wonder why they didn't even care about his declaration in the first place? Hint: It's not apathy.)
Internet seems to be only good for finding cat abusers instead of saving people.
people are so against the death penalty but I'd rather be dead than spend life in prison
You say that now, but if you were given the choice between life and death are you sure you would choose death? Besides, the death penalty should only be used in extreme cases when it is very clear that the accused is guilty. If Steven Woods was given a life sentence, he would have as much time as he needed to prove he is innocent. If he is proven innocent after he's dead all it does is make Rick Perry look bad. Until we can bring people back to life, I oppose the death penalty.
You guys are fucking gullible.
Yeah lets just be completely apathetic when 80% of the people Texas kills are black or hispanic, but as soon as one white dude says he's innocent TO THE PETITIONS
I like how you guys don't seem to give a shit about all of the other (black/hispanic) people on Texas' death row that also say they're innocent.
Just because a guy admitted to killing them in court (during the sentence hearing no less) does not mean he actually did it.
Read the...well, read anything on this, the guy who confessed had bullet casings, finger prints on the weapons, he didn't "just admit to kill them" he admitted to something that was easily proven
You guys are fucking gullible.

Hi Lankist, how was your racism permaban?
his innocence is irrelevant. the death penalty is bullshit, and saving a life from it should be worth enough to sign a petition.

Double standards, regardless an innocent person doesn't deserve to die.

First of all, I'm completely against the death penalty.
But he is not innocent. You're going on bullshit stories you got from unreliable gossip websites and petitions.
FYI Steven Woods is noted for actively participating in Neo-Nazi groups.
[editline]13th September 2011[/editline]
also he has been accused of sexually abusing his younger siblings
And no, somebody else deciding to take full blame does NOT commute a sentence entirely to that person. That's called cutting losses, and it's actually fairly common. One person decides to take the fall for their partner-in-crime. Completely unreliable.
You guys are trying to set free a man you know absolutely nothing about, save for an autobiographical sob-story. The man is a fucking neo nazi, and you guys are ridiculously gullible.

oh. well even so, even if he's guilty he doesn't deserve to die, no one deserves to die, especially not in this context

I'm not saying he deserves to die, but don't make this out like an innocent man is being put to death rah rah rah fuck texas fuck america.
He is a bad, bad man and you are playing into his hand.
Meanwhile nobody seems to give a shit about all those people on the Texas death row that AREN'T nazis.

For me, it's not just this guy. I have a strong stance against capital punishment as a whole. People are probably more interested about this guy because there are two threads here about him. I doubt this has anything to do with race at all.
Really?
Then where are all the threads about the majority of death row inmates?
Shitloads of them maintain innocence.

That's what sucks about Texas. I don't know a whole lot about their legal system, but as far as I know it's next to impossible to appeal the death penalty, because the people in charge of hearing the appeals are themselves completely pro death penalty.

I don't think any legal system would take an online petition seriously anyway.
I love Texas and I love the death penalty, despite being liberal about nearly everything else. Most Texans feel the same way. People are going to kill other people no matter what, but there's a good number who are deterred because they're terrified of the death penalty.

Nobody does, but I'm talking about legitimate legal appeals.

Isn't it cheaper to give a prisoner life than it is to kill them? I could be completely wrong, it may just be some claim or whatever, but if it's true, it's financially irresponsible to begin with.

Even if this was given more interest because of race, this didn't start here. It seems to stem from Reddit, where someone claiming to be Steven's friend posted claiming that Steven was innocent. If that hadn't been posted, then there would be no threads about death row inmates here.
and then it spread like wildfire.
[editline]13th September 2011[/editline]
or a more relevant analogy:
like the nazis across europe
Is he dead yet?

So your interest in saving a man's life goes only as far as, "he has an easy-access website with the petition clearly labeled in the front?"

Yes, though both are expensive. Which is why I think the death penalty should be reduced to just shooting the person in the back of the head.
Or old school hangings. Those would scare the piss out of would-be criminals.
Did they kill him yet?

yes because thats how we protect society
by violating all rights and murdering people in the streets
why stop there why not do what they did to those god damn escaped slaves and torture them, dismember them, hang them from a tree, set them on fire and then sell their body parts as trophies to all the good christian white folk.
would that satiate your bloodlust?
