"protect and serve"
So, Obama leaves for Israel for two days, and THIS happens.
This is insane, that is something that happens in space station 13 if the security guards are shit. Well until the put the mask on him... What the fuck were they thinking? What was the riot armor guys thinking??
But in real life... Good god what the hell.
This is like a scene I'd expect to come from some dystopian movie or from countries like North Korea.
I thought it was common knowledge that cops put a guy in a cell and kick the shit out of them if they spit or be smart-asses (here in Aus anyway).
I, for one don't think they should be SHOT.
Shot? No. Made an example of in some different way? Absolutely. They should either be put through the same ordeal or kicked off the force. There's simply no way to justify what they did.
Land of the free, home of the brave.
These cops will be discharged and there will be no further repercussions.

well guess what, nothing will happen
of course they over stepped what they did, but any cop with any sort of mentality can fight against the court of the 'precautions' they took to protect themselves from harm.
I wouldn't want anyone spitting in my face, they could have aids, or other STI's that I most certainly do not want.
also about the fact that he can't breath? is entire bullshit, that mask has plenty of tiny holes that can pass oxygen through no problem. He's just getting claustrophobic, and panic attacking. All of which aren't going to medically kill him. If he was put in that state, there must be a reason. We don't know what happened before, do we?
The guy obviously had to have done something wrong? Is there anyone that can say he was just walking down the street and they arrested him? So he must have been doing -something- that would have put him in that far of a situation.
Why the fuck are all these guys in full riot gear for one guy?
This is insane. How can this be America?
I think I've figured it out, America hates humans.
That's literally the only reason I can think of.
Can't wait to see them get sued and have their badges removed.
Not fussed about the armoured officers - they're doing their job. That captain on the other hand is an arrogant, power hungry twat who needs to be decommissioned on the spot.
Wow its like DarkRP in real life
I don't think that the cop understands what happens when you get pepper sprayed in the fucking face.
Pretty sure you are forced as a cop to get tazed and pepper sprayed before they allow you to carry it, so you know what its like so you know when to stop.
Giving someone the sensation of suffocating sounds a hell of a lot like "giving someone the sensation of drowning"
And waterboarding is DEFINITELY torture in my book
To those saying that him being sprayed is no big deal; perhaps. In this case however please do note that the pepperspray used was meant for a crowd at quite a distance. Not for one person point blank.
Also pepperspray fumes alot, if he has a spitguard over his mouth and nose, then little holes or not, he will have the pepperspray linger and concentrated much longer.
They don't enforce laws either. These guys are just correctional officers aka they just guard/maintain order. Cops are only in present when they drop your ass off in Intake and during transfers/transportation to court, thou 9 times outta 10 moving prisoners is handled by the counties sheriff's department.
correctional officers are cops as well.
saying they aren't is like saying detectives aren't cops, or parole officers aren't cops, or vice aren't cops.
Pepper Spray should be to subdue, not to torture... cops..
It's scary knowing that these men are supposed to 'protect' us.
It's scary knowing that these men are supposed to 'protect' us.
no these men aren't protecting you. why? because you don't live in their jurisdiction.
Seriously
WHAT THE FUCK
Looks like the guy was having a panic attack. He obviously could breath a few minutes after being sprayed. But during those few minutes, he was suffocating from the spray and being constrained. After he caught his breath, he was still shaken up (in a panic attack) because he was being constrained. The restraints, like the covering his eyes, holding his head back, the mask, all were being used to prevent him from repeating his spitting in an officer's face.
The using of these restrains was justified. What was not justified was the use of pepper spray. All these things are used to keep the prisoners under control and the officers safe. The use of pepper spray on a subject that appears to be restrained or not dangerous is unnecessary because it does not provide safety for either parties. I would even so much as argue that the use of pepper spray in this situation is inhumane, and it also puts everyone else in the room at risk because the spray spreads throughout the room effecting everyone in it. At least one other officer shows a symptom from the spray by coughing a few minutes after the spray. It is inhumane because assuming the officers were aware they were not in danger, they then decided to use the spray as a torture device.
What we see here is a mild form of torture. It is bad because they don't need any information from him, they simply want to see him suffer. They then put the blame on the prisoner, saying "You did this to yourself," as if it is a written punishment to use pepper spray on a spitting subject. Pepper spray should never be used as punishment. In the United States, we punish people by confinement, not physical pain. When you inflict physical pain as punishment to a prisoner, you are going beyond punishing the mind to punishing the human body.
I think an appropriate punishment for spitting on an officer should be the old eye-for-an-eye treatment. I'm sure the officer was very angry about getting spit in the face, I would be. So letting him spit back on the restrained subject should be fair enough, along with the proper restraints to keep him from doing it again.

Also, since we are bringing up other countries, this is nothing. For a first-world country like the United States, ya it's bad and we see it everyday. But if this triggers your sympathy for prisoners, you need to educate yourself with what happens beyond these borders.

Or watch this http://www.ted.com/talks/hyeonseo_lee_my_escape_from_north_korea.html
Then reestablish what you think is awfully inhumane.
This speaks for itself:
The punishment cell is one of the most dreaded punishments for all prisoners. The cells are usually 60 cm wide and 110 cm high. Therefore, the prisoners have no room to stand up, stretch their legs or lie down. They cannot even lean against the walls because they are too jagged. There are twenty such cells for female prisoners and 58 cells for male prisoners. They are usually detained for seven to ten days as punishment for certain offenses, such as leaving an oily mark on clothes, failing to memorize the president's New Year message or repeated failure to meet work quotas.
I talked to a friend who works for the (german) police, and he said that the use of pepper spray was absolutely unnecessary in that situation. if you use it, you need to wash it off right after use.
Wow its like DarkRP in real life
if it was DarkRP, the officer he spat on would have started shrieking in the voice of a ten year old, then he would be struck by a baton and teleported into a locked cell
This is fucking horrible.
Video or didn't happen.
For some reason I don't feel sorry for the guy. There's people in the world that you should just never ever piss off. Those people include Waiters, Ambulance Drivers, and the police
Fuck that made me mad, i want to kick that powerhungry pig right in his fat doughnutfilled throat.

This is so inhumane, fuck.

Brutal scare tactics to kick his ass back in line. That's all I got from this. There was nothing he could've said to make them stop that "treatment".
They are obviously not trained on how to deal with mental patients.
