That's because there are two groups of people: the people who have played the game and like it therefore not giving a fuck about DRM, and the people who have never played it and are jumping on the DRM-hate bandwagon.
If you don't "give a fuck" about things that affect your rights as a consumer, you're going to have a bad time.
If you don't "give a fuck" about things that affect your rights as a consumer, you're going to have a bad time.
My internet has not gone down in over three years, so I still don't give a fuck about always-online DRM.
That's because there are two groups of people: the people who have played the game and like it therefore not giving a fuck about DRM, and the people who have never played it and are jumping on the DRM-hate bandwagon.
The reason why people are so apposed to DRM, especially Always-Online DRM, is because it is a genuine nuisance and does nothing but punish someone that legitimately bought their game. On top of that, "not giving a fuck" about things like DRM is detrimental to the consumer, apathy is never a good thing and if big publishers don't get enough negative feedback they will never change their ways. Just look at Ubisoft, they got so much backlash from all their Always-Online DRM that they stripped it from their games. The consumer can change something! All you have to do is vote with your money and raise hell about a problem that affects you. Edit:
My internet has not gone down in over three years, so I still don't give a fuck about always-online DRM.
Yes, because you are truly representative of everyone that plays video games. I live in an apartment on a college campus, my ISP is TIME FUCKING WARNER, and my internet connection is constantly cutting out over the course of a day.
Did you watch it or just read the comments? He never said to not buy the game or you're an idiot, he listed all the things wrong with the game's DRM and server-hosted saves and told you to make a decision for yourself.
I'll admit, I exaggerated that part. But you can't really say that he's telling people to make the decision for themselves when he repeatedly says "don't buy this game". I mean, he even opens the whole rant by saying "you shouldn't buy or play simcity".
My internet has not gone down in over three years, so I still don't give a fuck about always-online DRM.
I'm amazed at your capacity for empathy.
If you don't "give a fuck" about things that affect your rights as a consumer, you're going to have a bad time.
What you calls rights I call entitlement.
The points he brought up are very valid and I can't help but agree with him on them, even tho I don't like him as reviewer.
I'm amazed at your capacity for empathy.
I can empathize with people who have shitty internet but don't cry at me because I'm not manufacturing the rage you want me to. I play online games from a full tower with broadband internet all the time so no it really isn't a problem.
But always-online DRM really isn't a good thing.
But it's nothing to boycott a game over, DRM has been around for years.
It will be a problem when EA turns of the servers.
It will be a problem when EA turns of the servers.
"Buy the game NOW or you won't be able to play it in a couple of years!" -EA
But it's nothing to boycott a game over, DRM has been around for years.
Yeah, but none that prevented you from playing any time you wanted. I'm really more concerned about save files on EA servers more than anything.
It will be a problem when EA turns of the servers.
they aren't going to shut them down unless the cost of maintaining them outweighs the benefits, benefits like holding on to a customer base. If they kill the servers in a year or two they will lose massive customer support as long as a lot of people are still playing the game. If 27 people are logging on per day in 8 years to play SimCity can you really blame them for pulling the servers? [editline]4th March 2013[/editline]
Yeah, but none that prevented you from playing any time you wanted. I'm really more concerned about save files on EA servers more than anything.
no that has existed for awhile too actually.
they aren't going to shut them down unless the cost of maintaining them outweighs the benefits, benefits like holding on to a customer base. If 27 people are logging on per day in 8 years to play SimCity can you really blame them for pulling the servers?
So you're saying it's ok if EA decides when you get to play a game you paid for?
Yes, because you are truly representative of everyone that plays video games. I live in an apartment on a college campus, my ISP is TIME FUCKING WARNER, and my internet connection is constantly cutting out over the course of a day.
I'm not the representative. I never said I was. All I said was that I have no problem with always online DRM. It is unfortunate that you have to deal with this problem, but it is not my problem and there is no way I can help you without directly boycotting one of my favorite game series.
So you're saying it's ok if EA decides when you get to play a game you paid for?
I already pay for games where the developers or publishers decide when I get to play so it's not really a problem with SimCity.
Not going to bother buying this unless for whatever reason its really really good. They threw away most of what I liked about sim city, trashing scale for dumb "detail". Limited save files. ALWAYS online. I cant even count how many times I blew the shit out of my cities on sim city 4 without saving to see what would happen.
What you calls rights I call entitlement.
Well that's your opinion. and in my opinion your opinion is objectively wrong.
They threw away most of what I liked about sim city, trashing scale for dumb "detail".
Are you retarded? SimCity has always been about the detail.
He isn't being a twat. He's completely right. DRM is stupid as fuck and totally immoral. He doesn't condone piracy, nor is he implicating it in anyway. He's just laying out hard solid facts that are both abundently obvious and backed up by previous examples of the exact same thing.
Are you retarded? SimCity has always been about the detail.
He means the game migrating from using general statistics to simulate at a larger scale to atomizing individual elements to simulate at a smaller scale. There are pros and cons to both, but they are certainly very different, and a person making their purchasing decision on a core mechanic like this is not unreasonable.
It will be a problem when EA turns of the servers.
I still find it hilarious that people think EA is going to shut down servers to the point where the game is unplayable.
Can this "EA IS THE WORST AND GREEDIEST PUBLISHER EVAR!1!1!!!" shit just go to rest already? Theres bigger issues to face in in the industry right now like almost every politician saying "Video Games Cause School Shootings."
DRM is stupid as fuck and totally immoral.
Your Steam profile is linked to FP.
Well, his fanbase isn't really that dumb compared to some other Let's Players.
The "cubed" symbol scares them away, luckily.
you can play singleplayer in offline mode tho???
Not unless you have enabled offline mode before, something nobody does until they actually need to play offline.
Not unless you have enabled offline mode before, something nobody does until they actually need to play offline.
I've had it go into offline mode from a completely shut down computer. I think maybe you just need to have your user and password saved.
He actually kinda seems to have a point with the DRM, but I don't think that's a big enough reason to never ever play the game, ever. Unless it's in protest or something. [editline]a[/editline] After watching the whole video, I actually agree with him.
Doesn't Pre-ordering Sim City give you access to a couple city sets, like European and some such? And if you don't pre-order, that's $20 extra? But it being online only and other people having the sets for their city and regions also means you have to have it too to see it, so it's in the game already.. So... Fuck you EA, I'm not in the mood for their gimmicky shit anymore, either
Do you see my point now? Sometimes he has pretty good points and actually is unique as am "LP'er".
