you can play singleplayer in offline mode tho???
It's still DRM....
guess what
i'm going to get simcity as it looks really fun
got a problem
From what ive seen of the new simcity I think simcity 4 is much better. I dont really care that much about always online drm, didnt harm me so much in diablo III. I am actually a bit upset at EA because personally I remember paying 20$ for simcity 4 deluxe edition all those years back with huge cities that could cope with millons of people interconnected in regions that you could play with other simcity fans. I also loved the sheer modability of the game, more content than I could possibly dream of.
Tomorrow, when Simcity comes out people will only be playing an over hyped village simulator for 59.99$. NO modability at launch. NO offline singleplayer. Simcity is my favourite gaming franchise and it was a pity to see it get spat on with sim city societies. This new game seems to be just an attempt by EA to rub salt into a very open wound. What a pity to see such a huge opportunity be thrown away for the sake of corporate greed.
I think im going to stick to Simcity 4.
After playing SC5 I can't go back to SC4. It feels so hollow and lifeless compared.
Wait he thought he could use like dxtory or fraps with SimCity classic? lol? It's not even directX or OpenGL of course you cant.

Look at all of that consumer benefit that DRM is getting you.
it's launch day lol.
queues.
in single player. sim city.
hey EA?
good job. really selling it guys. gold star. A+. best publishers.
It's not that it has DRM, it's that it has really shitty DRM compared to Steams.
I've also bought multiple games on both Steam and from Good Old Games because if I'm on holidays and i don't have access to an internet connection, i want to be able to play the game.

Damn, sorry about my previous post post then, I take that back. I honestly did not expect their Always Online bullshit to go THIS FAR, especially on a game which many people liked to play on car trips and such.
EA you've really fucked up this time.
It's still DRM....
yes well steam is actually convenient DRM and is useful, and because of its mass community you actually get to do things.
yes well steam is actually convenient DRM and is useful, and because of its mass community you actually get to do things.
I think Steams great, the guy I was quoting doesn't think so though.
I love it when everyone goes to ape shit to Ubisoft when they put always online drm for singleplayer games but for some reason its different with simcity
I think Steams great, the guy I was quoting doesn't think so though.
what.
Where do you get that from?
it's launch day lol.
This isn't an MMO.
I love it when everyone goes to ape shit to Ubisoft when they put always online drm for singleplayer games but for some reason its different with simcity
Majority of people I know are going apeshit over this as well, and to be quite honest then so am I.
what.
where do you get that from?
He called DRM stupid and immoral
Steam is DRM
????

Of course it isn't. Relevance?
Of course it isn't. Relevance?
MMOs have this kind of problem.
A game with a single player mode? Come on EA are you even trying.
I love it when everyone goes to ape shit to Ubisoft when they put always online drm for singleplayer games but for some reason its different with simcity
I'm pissed off about every online DRM>
Except I actually buy SimCity.
I don't really buy Ubisoft games outside of FC3.

Steam is on the light side where it barely if it at all hampers your ability to play the game or your experience with it, and on top of that in fact enchances it in quite a few ways, especially for multiplayer games.
This is always-online DRM, and always-online DRM done exceptionally badly as well, pretty big difference.
And it's relevant because, like Danharibo said, launch day queues might be a problem for MMOs, but they have never been and should never be a problem for singleplayer games.
Wait he thought he could use like dxtory or fraps with SimCity classic? lol? It's not even directX or OpenGL of course you cant.
But in that case, can't it just record the screen instead of hooking to the application or something?
MSI Afterburners thing can't detect Minecraft for example, so it just switches Windows Aero to Basic for whatever reason and captures the whole screen.

Then maybe the person I was quoting should have made that distinction instead of waiting for someone to make it for them. If you are going to call something stupid you should atleast understand what that thing is.

It's not just a singleplayer game though, you can just play it in singleplayer.

Hey I have an idea.
Maybe you could, oh I don't know, seperate the multiplayer and singleplayer parts of the game and only make you stay online when you're actually playing multiplayer, instead of completely alienating every single person who does not have a perfect internet connection?
You know, like just about all other games do?

Stop moving the goalposts. I never implied that the game should always be online, just explaining that online games rarely work the moment they come out. I couldn't pick the server I wanted to play on for days when Guild Wars 2 came out, and if you want to arbitrarily decide that example doesn't work because it's an MMO and apparently MMO players are less entitled than you are, Battlefield 3 also had some pretty crippling network-related flaws at release.

You have to specifically tell it to hook to Windows DWM.
No, but should we really care about some let's player boycotting a game?
it's not about caring or not caring, this isn't some empathy or ethos lesson here, it's about if you either:
A: agree with him or
B: disagree with him
if you agree with him, then his job is fucking DONE, if you don't, then whoop-dee-doo stop making such a big deal out of it

And you have a fucking offline mode.
It makes me really fucking angry that terrible business practices can sully the name of an otherwise good looking game. With that said, I still pre-ordered the game off of amazon, and I'm going to enjoy playing it.
On the note of nerdcubed, I like how he basically alienated the part of his audience who want to play this game (me included). It would have been fine to just explain EA's business and let the people decide whether or not to buy the game instead of saying "DONT BUY THIS GAME AND IF YOU DO YOU'RE A TWAT". Also apparently the person who says "one person isn't going to make a difference" is a twat, even though in this day and age they are completely right.
This has been a very prevalent statement in arguments about videogames and it pisses me off.
Some dude in SH railed on me earlier for saying I like some EA games, using that same "ur a dumbass if you buy this videogame" . I mean, what the fuck?
thank god im not a fucking ea consumer
you are not missing SHIT if you don't buy a single thing from EA

then im sorry for you because most of those are shit
putting in mirrors edge like that, shame on you, its a speck of gold in a crap heap
I'm not allowed to like the games I like because they're shit lol.
I think this is out of hand. It's a fact EA sucks. Or at-least somewhat anyway. Who cares what games people do or don't like. The main point of it all was that DRM is an imposition to consumers. Also to the guy awhile back talking about my steam. Yes. Steam and DRM found in Simcity etc are entirely different stories.

The main point of it all was that DRM is an imposition to consumers. Also to the guy awhile back talking about my steam. Yes. But steam as many others said is very nonrestrictive in pretty much all senses. Yes they are locked to your account, but all in all. I see no wrongs from Vavle that would make them "Bad"
Steam is a restrictive DRM, though. It goes down frequently, it fucking drains my computer's memory, offline mode works once in a blue moon, downloads frequently fuck up, servers go down... It's not a perfect program.
It's not an issue when a game is Steam exclusive, but if it's Origin exclusive people flip shit, too.
Steam was the first Digital store with "hidden" DRM to get really popular.
First one to get the big marketshare is the best, thats the case why bad things about Steam aren't as bad as bad things about Origin. Steam was first, that means Steam is automatically better, no questions asked.
I've never had a problem with steam. It sometimes loses connection to friends on a occasion. But that's as far as any of my issues have gone. I've had all problems regarding purchases and misunderstandings sorted out in a day or so without hassle. Barely uses 50MB of my Ram. Offline mode works flawlessly for me. And my downloads never cut out or just stop, or lose data bytes causing a corrupt download requiring verification etc.
Only games that require online steam are Valve games, which I never touch, the rest work in offline mode.
