And you know what? Who gives a shit, music is all about enjoying yourself, and it sells because there's a market.
Me, and many other artists trying to make it in music who have to compete with trashy overly produced music that's guaranteed to succeed. We can't take the risks people did 30 years ago, because (the winning) record companies are generally too concerned with making safe money than giving the little guy a chance with something new. I enjoy making music for myself and others, and if I have to be stuck playing in bars my whole life because my music was too ~revolutionary~ for a record deal (exaggerating of course, any indie label would pick me up), at least I'd be making people happy on any scale. I'd be totally fine with that, but I wouldn't fulfil my Beatle fever dream. It's not about the money and fame, but money and fame make it easier to reach more people and do a better job. It's just not as easy to get off the ground anymore because labels are less willing to nurture new talent than they used to be. Thanks, capitalism!
pointing out the irony of his statement is a 'no you' argument?
I'm not talking about the people who make legitimate criticisms and point out the irony of his statements. I'm talking about people who don't bother to make legitimate criticisms of Corey's statements and just spew out petty insults and "no you!" arguments that really make them no better then Corey.

While it's true that pop music is usually more of a team effort, that doesn't mean there's any less effort involved. Top pop music producers and writers are incredibly talented
If making a hit was so easy and low-effort, why can't everybody do it? Why are specific writers/producers so in-demand?

I think there's a difference between being able to make a great hook that gets people on board and actually writing "good" music. They can of course be combined and that's when truly great music happens.
Top producers are probably in demand because they've shown that they can create hits, but at the same time it kinda limits what gets put out. Not saying they can't be very talented though.
I like all music.
I like all music.
No, you don't. Stop saying this.

Without sounding too pessimistic, a lot of today's hits are hits simply due to popular subject matter with a catchy hook melody. After spending a day at work hearing the local pop station, that's pretty much all there is to the new "pop hits".
I'm not trying to say it takes less effort either, I'm saying the people that get the credit are the ones in the spotlight when there's a whole team behind one person, and that can definitely make someone rationally cross due to the fact that - in their eyes at least - they are doing triple the work and not even scratching the surface of payoff.

It's a naive thing to say but it's impossible. You trying to censor people because you can't see yourself relating is kind of the bigger problem.

Okay, sure, fine. Let's say he likes ALL of this ALL at the same time:

It's pretentious as fuck for someone to say they like all music.
Blackout is my favorite pop album, I'm not ashamed.
The music you like is different from the music I like so I don't like it.

Stop being a fucking pedant, you know what he meant. It's blatantly obvious that he meant that he likes music from all genres, not that he likes literally all music ever made. It's not pretentious to enjoy some of everything, if anything it's the opposite. I see more pretentiousness come from people who only listen to metal, or rock, or IDM, or whatever genre you can think of rather then the people who try everything and enjoy a little bit of everything that they've tried.

Way to completely miss the point.
He would have had a point if he said this 5 years ago when most pop was over produced bullshit made by business men following a formula. These days things have picked up dramatically, in much the same way rap pick itself up in the past decade. Things are better now than they have been in a long time.
Country music on the other hand is in a horrible place. It's just the old pop formula being recycled but with trucks, guns, and beer placed in. It's not all terrible but the people with the money to push music are pushing the crap they can shit out in an afternoon.
It's a hamfisted argument, and it's not entirely wrong, but what makes it so much more different now than it was back then?
Yes the top 50 pop songs of now are soul-sucking and repetitive, and of those artists it's difficult to tell their songs apart. But at the same time, we are exposed to far more music than any previous generation ever had. People don't rely on radios and television as much for music. Now, instead of having music curated for them, they can pick an artist, follow a genre/style, find other related artists, find their inspiration / related artists, and listen through their works in a matter of minutes. All thanks to the internet.
Back in the 20th century, record labels were the only way to land a career in music. Some artists really hit it big, and those are the ones we remember today, but they also brought on a lot of artists that played it safe. Pop songs that fit this category are collecting dust in the bargain bins of used record stores. There are just as many unmemorable and repetitive pop hits from those days than there are now, but now more people are willing to listen to artists that take risks and make something unique. The people that don't will listen to tv and radio, and not really care. The argument that pop music nowadays is much worse than back in the 20th century obviously didn't live in that period, or are not doing their research.
Way to completely miss the point.
It's extremely insulting to suggest that you like all music and then say, "oh, except that, and that, and that." Because then you're essentially saying you like all music and that certain genres or pieces aren't music, or you're trying to get credit for something you're not actually doing.
Which is it? Do you like all music or not? And why is it relevant if you like all music? Are you some superhuman who has the ability to not dislike anything ever?
Can I do this too? Can I say I like all movies, music, art, and people? Oh, but except for that song, and that movie, anything in the dA Appreciation Station, and actually everyone!
It's a dumb thing to say that holds no meaning or purpose, because obviously you can't like everything, so it becomes this ambigious thing that doesn't actually explain anything you like. That's why it's a garbage statement. If I walked into a bar and someone asked me what I liked and I said everything, I'm being a gigantic douchebag to the other person who doesn't know what I actually enjoy while putting up a facade as a people-pleaser.

You're reading way way too far into a simple statement, holy shit
You're reading way way too far into a simple statement, holy shit
Because it's an ambiguous statement. How about stating stuff you enjoy so I can connect on a personal level? Or don't, so I can keep guessing what you actually enjoy versus what you don't.
I've talked to people who have said, "I like everything", to which I asked if they liked rap, to which the answer is no. Country? Nope. Orchestral? Nope. What they actually meant to say was they like Rock.
And sure, that list of dislikes can vary higher or lower from person to person, but it still doesn't mean that there's a level of ambiguity that doesn't say much about your personality.

I don't even understand what your point is supposed to be. Why are you so offended that someone likes some of everything when it comes to music genres? His post was a fucking 4 letter sentence and you're writing dissertations on how much you disagree with it.
Chill out, Jesus.

I usually like you, but you need to fucking chill right now.
Pop is always going to exist for the foreseeable future. It's the dominant genre for now. Hell, it might not always be, but, the thing is, it's not the only genre. There's a million and one metal bands and rappers and whatever the fuck you want, and the thing people forget is that these interesting genres are way more accessible than ever. You have way more access to different kinds of music than you used to have and overall, hating on pop is a waste of your time. There's no reason to get all butt sore because people like things you don't like. Sure, it might be unfair that the untalented shitheads get all the spotlight, and that's worth getting upset about, but hey, smaller bands still have fans and they're still happy and they still love them. Things are mostly fine in the music scene right now, really.

Call it a pet peeve of mine. I'm not thinking of less of him as a person and don't mean to come off aggressive (my last posts were totally me accidentally channeling my inner-Maddox) - it's just something that I think could be replaced with something a lot better and something that can make conversations easier with people.

Modern country is horrible. If you compare the lyrics of any country love song to a Justin Bieber song without knowing which is which, you'll never be able to guess. And when it's not a love song, the lyrics are similar to "bitches and money" rap, except instead of talking about how many Ferraris he owns he's talking about his truck.
My mom is also obsessed with this shitty modern country so living at home over the summer has been awful.
