If you're valuable you're going to succeed. If you can't succeed it's more a sign that you have bad genetics, also, the girls parents were doing a bad job, and that is because they had bad genetics, too. They had a bunch of people over for retarded parties and getting her sick for no reason. Why did they have a kid if they have such poor money making skills? That's because they had bad genetics of irresponsible thinking. They also have poor cultural norms which act as a sort of meta-genetics, because our parents passed them down to us, even though it isn't written in the DNA.
I hate it when people have kids out of wedlock, the parents should be sterilized and the kid should be aborted... I thought the left believed in evolution? They don't make excuses why a species failed only because it's environment changed. That is just survival of the fittest. We shouldn't let the unfit bring the fit down. It's a dysfunctional ecosystem.

hail hydra!!!
Great, now no one ever did anything. Because if not for their ancestor from 1400s, they woudn't even be there to make anything. One can go a long way following this path, should we credit prehistoric bacteria for inventing computer chips now?
You're misunderstanding the idea of it.
It's not that nobody did anything, but rather that everyone did their part.
You built the house, you put the pieces together, but that's just a small part of the entire process involved in the building of the house.
It doesn't mean your effort is worthless.
It means your effort is made possible sure to previous achievements and knowledge of other humans.
It also means you're adding to that pool of knowledge.

But that's my point, everyone has been working off of other people's stuff since the dawn of time. It's the most redundant thing ever to point out, right next to "the Earth is round" and "the sunrise happens every day in most parts of the world". Of course my hypothetical business is built on top of what society has built so far, but tons of people, not everyone, but a lot of people have access to the same resources, but that's me who used it this particular way.

I guess we're agreeing then.
I don't think it's redundant to point it out though, and neither did Obama.
It's important to remember that our lives are the results of many people's hard work, and of course we should be thankful of that.

People are taking issue with that last line.
If you've got a business... You didn't build that! Someone else made that happen!
I'm not sure how else to interpret that unless he misspoke

Not everyone actually has access to the same resources, though. That's not really the point however.
The point is that a lot of people don't have respect for the fact that everything they've built was with the help of others.

It's true though. You were a part of building it, but so was everyone else who was ever a part of it, whether they were at the top, at the bottom, or middle management. It couldn't have happened without the help of all of them.
Just because you're the founder, doesn't mean all the work was squarely done by you. It's a group effort.

Probably just came out a bit wrong if i were to guess.
He obviously doesn't mean you had no part in it.

Just because you had help didn't make it a group effort.
I'm incredibly lucky to have connections. They're why I might become successful. The thing is, in most cases, connections are a door. They're a way to get your resume on the desk. They're a way to get loans you wouldn't have otherwise been granted, or get a good word in from someone who counts.... But they're not doing any of the work for you unless you're incredibly incredibly wealthy. They place the doors there, but it's your job to walk through them and let me tell you the actual walking through the door is not easy and nobody is going to help you. Once the resume on that desk gets you in, you need to work and prove your worth. If you're shit, you're still going to get the boot. It gives you the chance, not the position.
I am privileged because I have these connections. I am privileged because I have the time to actually develop these skills instead of focusing on putting food on the table. I fully recognize that.
However.
If my aspirations come to pass, and the things I'm working on get off the ground, that would be entirely my own work. Others may have made that work easier, but the actual work itself will be done by me. It would be foolish to deny that my position didn't help, but it would be equally foolish for someone else to claim that because the opportunities were presented to me, the work that I did was not entirely my own. It would be even more foolish to claim that my business was not entirely my own.... because that's the thing. I have no idea if I'm going to actually succeed or not, because while these connections have offered me a chance, it's just that. A chance. I'm still going to have to work incredibly hard to turn that chance into a reality.
