If sherlock holmes doesn't get best score, I'm going to have to kick the academy award judges' ass.
1. A Serious Man is the best movie of 2009, and definitely is most deserving of Best Picture. However, it has almost no chance of winning. I'm predicting The Hurt Locker will win. 2. Inglourious Basterds is the second best movie, but won't win. 3. Avatar, I actually think this movie is under-rated. I was very happy when it won the Golden Globe, but many people were pissed saying it was all visuals and no story. I loved the story, I found it engaging, despite its familiarity. 4. Jeff Bridges will win Best Actor, but Colin Firth should, he was incredible in A Single Man. 5. Carey Mulligan should win for An Education, she was great, but I think Bullock will win this year (undeservedly). 6. Waltz and Monique will win supporting, both deservedly. 7. (500) Days of Summer got snubbed for Best Picture, get The Blind Side out of there! Just my two cents.
I totally agree with what you said about A Serious Man. Avatar sucked balls, accept it. It's only visuals! Nothing else! Otherwise I agree with what you said.
Hurt Locker is going to win Best Picture. It had an original story line, plus was pretty exciting to watch the whole thing unlike Avatar which bored me alot and was a basically Blue Pochahontus/Dances With Wolves

a serious man or precious should win best picture, thankfully there are no sweaty nerds on the panel so district 9 probably wont win.
public enemies = giant fucking snub. like that movie is legit. at least shoulda gave it sound editing, those firefights were intense and if avatar wins anything except for like best visual effects, the oscars are officially dead to me. well no they were dead to me when crash won best picture. fuck that movie.
Has nobody on FP even seen Fantastic Mr. Fox? Everything about that movie was excellent, but nobody has a word to say about it.
Has nobody on FP even seen Fantastic Mr. Fox? Everything about that movie was excellent, but nobody has a word to say about it.
I've seen it. It is a great movie for both kids and adults. It deserves to win something.
PIXAR always wins an award for the best Animated film. Was there a year where Pixar didn't win any award for their movie? Coraline and Fantastic Mr Fox are the only two stop motion movies based on a novel of the year 2009.
Yeah, that's a shame.
There is one curious thing about the best musical score nominees: Why is Avatar included? I mean, it is a fairly good score and complements the film well, but two issues have to be taken into account: - First of all, James Horner is very known for recycling material from his scores. See for example how he reused his Klingon theme from Star Trek III in the action music of Aliens, or how in almost every score you hear his 4-note "danger motif". I'm not saying that Horner is the only film composer who is guilty of this, but I can hear recycling in almost every single score he has done, and Avatar is no exception. - The former issue is worsened by the fact that Horner supposedly had a FULL YEAR to compose the score. It certainly doesn't seem like that at all, because it really does not differ from million other Horner scores. I mean, look at the 1959 Ben-Hur; Miklos Rozsa was given a year to compose the score, and the result was probably the best filmscore ever. Fastforward to the mid-60s when "Fall of the Roman Empire" came out; Tiomkin had a full year, and what an awesome score that was! If my memory is correct, the latter composer also had a year to compose the The Alamo (1962), and that too is great. But Avatar? It seems like Horner slept for 10 months and then said "Hey, I forgot to write the score!" and then the whole thing was done in a month or two. If this score had been done using the usual scoring schedule (a month or two), it might be justified to call it a good score, but this was done in a year, and nothing shows it! To be fair though, the state of film music in modern cinema is pretty terrible, so it might seem like any more-interesting-than-usual -score is the best thing ever. However, if this is supposed to be used as a criteria, why wasn't the new Trek film nominated for best score? I know it's a sequel, but it's not like any old music was used outside the end credits.
^i think its mostly cause of the african motif parts anyway, coraline had better win best animated feature, it was so much better than up. too bad it wont because the academys in the bag for pixar.
At least the BAFTA's gave MOON some of the respect it deserves. It just won the award for "Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer" but that was all it was nominated for. Still well deserved, though. BAFTA results: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/an_education/news/1865904/bafta_winners_announced
Yeah fuck you James Cameron. I'm so happy he didn't get best director or best film. (I'm talking about the BAFTAs here btw)
Meh, Sam Rockwell should at least have been nominated for best actor.
Even though I really don't like Inglourious Basterds, Waltz is a pretty good actor, he better win it.
Waltz, as well as Mo'Nique, are the two nominees that really can't lose. They've won everything else, they're going to win this too.
Meh, Sam Rockwell should at least have been nominated for best actor.
dude i fucking KNOW he was 2 people! thats nuts!

I'm hoping for UP will win for best animated feature film and Logorama for animated short.
fuck up. coraline better win
fuck up. coraline better win
The guy who did the music for Coraline also did the music for Kells. :buddy: Nah, but honestly I think Up is better than Coraline. My emotions were goddamn putty for Up, Coraline was just really fucking awesome.
i bawled like a child during up, but coraline was so legit also why wasn't dad's song nominated for best original song?
I liked Fantastic Mr. Fox more than Coraline and Up. :saddowns: Especially more than Coraline.
