i really want to play that project zomboid game, but i am not paying for a fucking alpha, and for some reason the demo link doesnt work.
That really does look like fun..
its times like that where i wish i was a head of a gaming company and could make a game like that but better. There still hasnt been a true zombie survival game. Im talking a game where you have to survive for as long as you can. You can choose to either be a lone wolf (hardcore difficulty), make a gang of a few people (medium), or join the military (easy). These could have separate quest lines and will incorporate different ways of solving problems. There will be a leveling system that can be a mix of fallout, you choose what skills to improve, and (i cant think of anything else so) the sims, the more you cook or shoot guns, the better you get but you can find books or people to train you. You use these to survive depending on what story you choose. For the lone wolf: You start out at your house just before the infection spreads, you go to the store buy what supplies you think you need and setup a base. Infection starts, and your skills are put to the test. At first all is well, you have plenty of ready made meals, ammo, and material to reinforce your barricades. As you run low you have to sacrifice areas of your home or move out and find a new place to stay (abandoned school, factory, store, etc). You will have to focus your upgrades in traps, barricades, and cooking. Your quests will be mercenary tasks from people you encounter to either get ammo, food, building materials. Group of people: Since its a small tight group you will need to manage moral, food, and relationships. Now not to intense, im not saying you go Sims mode and have to make conversations, i mean you will have quests where you can help each member with maybe a project, do a rescue mission and save their wife or kid, survive an attack on your base with minimal loss. Maybe a simple moral bar that will dictate AI performance at building barricades and killing zombies. Since you are in a group they can help you with those but if your moral is too low, they do worse at killing and reinforcing. Same as the lone wolf you may need to move out, but you will be able to scout out new places easier knowing you can bring a partner and have someone watching home base. Military: This quest line can include clearing out heavy zombie areas, going on rescue missions, or supply dumps. Killing is going to be top priority, and maybe you get access to some skills the other 2 dont have. Maybe make this one more of a rts, where you bring a group of soldiers with you and place them in strategic points. Also, you may need to maintain the base by doing repairs, cleaning the quarters etc, if you dont you get kicked out (times are tough so everyone must do their part). And you will deal with the occasional mutiny or rebellion among the people you save. Just an idea i was thinking about. I like the top down idea in zombiod it would work better since you could have a break in and see it. If it was fps, you would have no idea and get fucked, but maybe that can add to it... interesting.
Yea I'd prefer it be FPS for the scare factor. the idea of how different difficulties have different types of play I personally don't like the idea of, because what if I wanted to play with a group and have it still be hard. I'd just rather have the option in game to decide whether I want to be with a group or stay alone.
well in reality each of these ideas could easily be a separate games.
that would be awesome however haha
k so i got project zomboid. only 7.99 american no tax. i suggest everyone who wants it do the same before the price goes up when it's officially released.
i got it, man this game is pretty good but seriously needs some settings. I know its in alpha but its so hard to use z or ctrl to combat.
Anybody here play minecraft from time to time? I love building, an I think it'd be fun to get creative and maybe do a huge build
i play it solo sometimes, never multiplayer. ive been building a town while high for several months now its really turning out [editline]16th March 2012[/editline] but yeah minecraft is fucking boring generally

Yea I've just been building a town by myself too... forever alone...
i always end up setting up a massive goal that is too difficult and after a few hours of work i get discouraged and stop playing. That goes for any building-like game i play like terraria and other stuff.

its a bit too hard because of the wonky inventory system and how you equip and use shit. Also its like once the zombies start chasing you, youre fucked. I try my best to avoid them and everything but since its damn near impossible to get wood for barricades and shit you end up just jumping from house to house running away. Seriously needs multiplayer because being by yourself is fucking hard.

The concept is really good if someone could make a FPS with this type of game. Like we've said before, it just sucks how every zombie game that's out always gives you some silly objective or what not because they think the game will get boring. But not everyone in the world has a short attention span and needs constant action, which is why there needs to be a zombie game where the one (and only) objective is to survive. or even something 3rd person. Give me a city the size of GTA IV and just add random events like roadblocks, barricades, and of course, zombies everywhere. honestly if GTA IV had zombies, it would be the best game to come out to date considering you can really do almost anything and it's so realistic with that euphoria engine where it makes up the animations on the spot. Suffice to say a zombie game like this on the euphoria engine would be the best zombie game ever made haha. oh, and you have to kill them by killing the brain, no exceptions. I'm sure I've left out bits of my opinion, so feel free to challenge what I've said and I'll try to defend best I can haha :D
after playing zomboid it really is the kind of game i wanted to make but with shit inventory, rpg, and mechanics. GTA would make for a good base of a zombie game with a little more modifications. I like being able to see myself in 3rd person, i would keep that. If you reeeeallly want it to be horror then make it fps. Tbh there was one time in zomboid where i jumped because i opened a door after sleeping in a room and there were a shiton of zombies in the house that i didnt hear or see. Now i got bored after a while of playing zomboid sandbox mode for several reasons. 1) Without a real objective or depth all you do is barricade a house, then go out for supplies and shit. Im i guy who fucking loves to explore worlds, but when all you do is go into a house, check the kitchen, medicine cabinet, and dressers, it gets a little boring and repetitive. 2) All you do is get food and shit for youre stronghold. Playing any other way will get you killed since it takes so much effort to build a decent barricade 3) starting out with completely nothing is a little fucked since all it takes is one crowd of zombies to follow you home and kill you. Now i know its an alpha but these are still problems that should be fixed and criticized. Theres only one gripe i have with your response. GTA 4 doesnt really have that much to do in terms of long term goals. Sure i can play around killing people, going on police chases, doing random mini missions but besides story mode theres nothing you can take a few hours to work on something huge for a few days. Its fun to fuck around but when you have a game like zomboid, if you GTA-ize it, it would be pretty bland. You can go around killing zombies for a bit but then you are back to fixing your house and getting food. What Im trying to say is, you have to provide tools that the player can use to create their own objectives and goals. Having just an open world doesnt cut it. The story mode of this game is ok, but i got wreaked because of the shitty mechanics. I like how they separated the two, free mode and story but free mode needs a lot more work. Its like a sandbox with no sand, pail, or water.

What I mean is, you focus on surviving, and you actually want to try to avoid zombies rather then fight them. Also I want guns to be fairly hard to find, and ammo as well. of course there should be abundances of these items in some places aka a gun store or an armory. Also the places you find things, I don't want to find a shotgun in a kitchen cabinet, or shotgun shells. Also as far as guns go, I would like to focus on sound and stealth. and if you fire a gun, you will be swarmed by zombies within a few minutes. so it'll deter players to just go and firing off as many bullets as they see fit. I'm sick of all these new games being so easy, I'd want this game to be difficult. Obviously not retarded like you get bit once and you die, but I would like it if players could get infected and die. I don't have a solid plan but these are all ideas that stay fairly solid with my opinions on zombie games. Sorry if I'm rambling, I tend to. Oh also I want the player to be affected by firing a gun without ear protection. If you ever fire a handgun or a large caliber gun without protection your ears ring!

Its a good concept but when you are using it to get out of a horde or run away even more zombies come and you get fuuuuucked. Happened to me. The noise part of the game is very hit or miss, mostly miss. You cant really gauge how much noise you are making or how far it goes and how many it will attract. It needs a radar like Metal Gear Sold 4 where it shows how much noise you are making and who it will attract. You would like this game though, if you can get passed the shit inventory and other stuff.

I dunno it just seemed like it would get old fairly quick, especially since the environments are all the same, maybe it'd be neat if they made the game randomly generate an infinite world that constantly could change from small town, to urban, to forest, and so forth. now obviously there would have to be cars, but you'd need gas and so forth. I'm thinking infinitely generated like minecraft sort of, but with the engine it's currently on. make that multiplayer and I couldn't see it getting old any time soon if they did it right. Just don't restrict the player too much really, that was another thing I didn't like about the demo, you couldn't run. What's up with that? I know I could run faster then a zombie.
you could sprint now but i agree it needs multiplayer asap. The difficulty curve is too high for by yourself. I have a group of friends who would like this game if we could LAN it. Thats all i want right now.

Any other fellow DD'ers like to play a good game of chess from time to time?
Any other fellow DD'ers like to play a good game of chess from time to time?
yea man, I play stoned all the time with some friends at a local cafe.
i hate chess, it's to rigid. i'd rather play Go or something like that where you can't use strategy to totally fuck your opponent into a corner a minute into the game. also checkers.
