Except then you've got the jackasses who are going to bitch, whine, complain and quit. It really is ridiculous. In a battlefield situation, I highly doubt that the sexuality of your fellow servicemen is going to be on top of your list of priorities.
The last thing he wants is to start giving out controversial executive orders since they're already riding his ass for "forcing" the health care bill.
Unlike most people, I find this issue retarded for one reason. Who honestly gives a fuck? Who cares if you're gay, straight, bi, or lesbian besides politicians that are politically correct?
I don't know why they can't just continue to keep it a secret.
It's not all about keeping it a secret. It's about the fact that if they were keeping it a secret, but someone still found out, they could be kicked out of the military simply for having a different sexual preference. Which is bullshit.
If you ever want to avoid a draft, say you're a flaming homosexual. BAM, still in America while all your friends die in mud holes.
Is it wrong that I like the don't ask don't tell rule so I can have a way to get out of the military if the draft started [editline]13th October 2010[/editline]
I don't know why they can't just continue to keep it a secret.
Because its discriminating and you know it
If you ever want to avoid a draft, say you're a flaming homosexual. BAM, still in America while all your friends die in mud holes.
This is exactly what I like about keeping "Don't ask, don't tell" around. I don't have anything against homosexuals, but I like having that option if I were to be drafted. Dunno why anyone would want to join the military, especially if you're gay and unwanted.
Good to see they're finally getting rid of this. This kind of policy has no place in our modern society.
For fucks sake, Why didnt they let the SOLDIERS decide. They have to deal with it. Even my gay friends agree.
People shouldn't be concerned about anyone's sexuality. Especially if you're in a war.
My first roommate in AIT was flamboyantly homosexual. And vain, too. He was a big, vain, gay guy. He always looked at himself in the mirror and rubbed his pecs and shit. He'd work himself up for twenty or thirty minutes, rubbing himself and saying shit like, "Aw yeah, I'm pumped, brother! I'm lookin' fiiiine! Look at these swells I'm rockin', I am just delicious!" When he got especially annoying with that crap, I'd say something like, "Yeah, but you still got a poogy-ass stomach." He would stop talking, stare at himself in the mirror for a minute or so while he poked and squeezed his stomach, then he'd go lay down in his bed and stare at the wall for a long time. edit I'm not saying he was gay because he'd rub himself and coo in the mirror, I'm saying he was gay because he was really, obviously, outwardly gay. He just couldn't admit it.
Did you make sweet forbidden love with him
Straight soldiers don't want to have fags looking at their tiny cocks and laughing.
Did you make sweet forbidden love with him
Nope. He had a rubber toy butthole from Fleshlight though. It isn't related to your question, I just thought it was kind of funny.

What are they going to do about it? From my very limited knowledge in congress, the last thing senators want is to be viewed badly during an election, and to keep their spot. "SENATOR JOHN VOTED YES ON REINSTATING DON'T ASK DON'T TELL!" doesn't sound very good for any campaign. And if the common man chooses to protest, who cares? I'm sure the gay pride parade will be a much bigger crowd anyway.
This is now five times I've mentioned rubber toy buttholes on one page. That's got to be a record of some sort.
Actually, what often happens is absolutely nothing if a superior finds out one of his soldiers is gay, if they're either already deployed, or about to be deployed. They just wait until they get home to deal with the matter. Having another man out there > any stupid ideas of it being risky or what have you. Just because they're gay doesn't mean they're any less willing to put their life on the line for their country and those around them...
I'm for gay rights, but I'm also for don't ask/tell depending on your view of it. Solders need to become friends/tight-knit to be a good fighting force. I'm sure that a lot of people who become soldiers have the anti-gay mindset. Unless there was an all-gay unit that the COs didn't know were gay, or if the soldiers in the unit the gay people are being put into all agreed that they wouldn't mind a gay person in their midst, it's not going to make a good situation for the gay people. Then again, if someone who's islamic can get in, the gay people are much better off than the more hated minorities.
I think America needs to do a little less catering to people who are just mad/hate anyone who isn't white and a god fearing Christian.
Yeah, but the only people who speak up are those that feel enough about the topic. And it's usually angry.
Don't ask, don't tell should stay where it is. In place and in effect.
Gay.
Gays would probably have a hard time in the army with the other straight guys. [editline]13th October 2010[/editline] I mean that they would give him a hard time. [editline]13th October 2010[/editline] As in they would be a dick to him.
How does being gay affect your fighting performance? Is it thought that gays will romance with each other causing a distraction on the battlefield? They have Men and Women serving, surely that doesn't cause distractable romance?
To go with what I've heard, the most valid reason actually falls to combat NCO's and officers. This is the same reason that women are not allowed in combat brigades, as at certain times in war, an officer must make a decision that will with almost perfect certainty cost the life of one or more soldiers. If the officer has a member of that brigade/platoon/etc that he is infatuated with, it introduces a lot of problems with his ability to make an impartial decision, as the military cannot simply go with guesses or likelihood of whether or not the officer is infatuated with a woman/man if he is gay when dealing with this. Hence women before, and gays now are ostracized by older military members/officials. It doesn't change the fact of today, but at least it's a somewhat valid reasoning.
