French is fucking terrible. I'm not shitting you when I say I've switched the language for my thinking to English because it's so much easier to formulate in my head. I just don't think in French anymore.
Holy shit I do exactly the same. Nice nickname btw
Say what you want, but I think French is the sexiest language on the planet.
As a french guy, I think Italian is sexier. :v:
None. It's a relic from ancient languages (namely Latin and Greek) and just exists to piss people off. English is way better off for not having it, but the difference between "de" and "het" words in the Dutch language for instance is just as pointless.
It's weird how Dutch has ditched the masculine/feminine shit but the "de" and "het" shit still remains. German still has all the masculine/feminine shit too, and it's very confusing D:
I was like 12 when I first learned french in school and it striaght up traumatized me, like looking at French verb tales gives me cold sweats and flashbacks. Not only did I have a hard time learning all those irregular verbs, but they had also just mixed up the classes and for some reason my new class hated me and they would give me shit for messing up in class to the point that I became scared of french. That year, I got a straight F for failing every single test and it only got better once I had to repeat that year and got mixed in with a different class
Must be a Quebec thing because I don't see what you mean.
Even in Québec that's a huge stretch.
* au fromage you said "omelette from cheese"
Would also commonly refer as "omelette of the cheese"
my favorite one is how "gangrene" spoken in french sounds extremely similar to "big penis"
I think you're trying to say "Grande Graine" which is Big Seed, graine being a french canadian term for penis. Most french canadian would say Grosse Graine instead which basically means the same thing.
I stopped taking french courses as soon as I could. I couldn't ever get used to the masculine/feminine stuff. What is the point of all that bullshit?
It is annoying but I like the formality of it [editline]20th March 2016[/editline] Took 6 years of French from middleschool to highschool. I hardly know shit
Quality language for quality people, nothing else to be said :ok: [sp]or not[/sp]
I study French at university. I did this willingly and I love conversing in it. Evidently, something is very wrong with me. [sp]Although I do the thing with pronouncing 'ou' as 'u' all of the time and it pisses me off.[/sp]
-snip-
took 2 years of french and still can't pronounce a single word
French is one of those things that I regret not taking seriously when I was a kid. I got by with C's and low B's in French all through grade school and stopped immediately when it stopped being mandatory in grade 10.
Here's a nice educational video for those who're studying french
If you're learning french and want to have a shitton of fun, just watch "Les Tutos". It's like a french how 2 basic but with more yelling:
God I hated french in highschool. French is the embodiment of everything I dislike about English. Japanese has been way more fun and interesting to learn.
No kidding, French is hard and their grammar doesn't make any sense. Natives French people still make A LOT of grammar mistakes even after university.
