I saved my own life by getting surgery on my back if that counts.
I have scoliosis which would eventually kill me down the road, so I got rods in there and now im straight.
Wish I was brave enough to get surgery on my back, I ended up with sciatica about 2 years ago now...just pinged one day and the nerve trapped....worst fucking nerve pain 24/7 you could imagine for the first few weeks...evened out into a really sore left leg and after 1 year it's now settling down a bit and is starting to ease up through my own physical workout...
However, it's left it's mark. I've now got the beginnings of scoliosis of the spine, it's twisted and curving to the right as a natural reaction to relieve the trapped nerve effecting my left leg...totally fucking my ability to walk or stand straight...sigh.
If he called you, then he wanted someone to talk him out of it, which means he really didn't intend on doing it.

Still nice of you though
Probably the case, though I figured it was worth posting.
No but I have seen it happen, a friend of mine went on vacation with me to Mexico, he was swimming in the sea when he noticed a kid no older than 8 go under, he pulled him back to shore. Apparently it was the best he'd felt all his life.
It sucks that I can't see him more often since he moved away :(
I stopped by krunk friend from walking into a car by crossing the street.
At the beach one day I was swimming out further than I could touch bottom and a black kid was out there swimming with one of his friends. He started yelling and sinking under saying his leg had a cramp and he couldn't swim. He was gulping water in his panic. I swam over and brought him back to shore.
He was embarrassed that that had happened to him, especially since he was 17 and I was 12. Good thing I can swim.
Yeah man one time I was eating a sandwich when this guy came out of nowhere and pointed a gun at this woman and I got up and threw the sandwich at him, it had mayonnaise in it and as all of you know mayonnaise is the only thing that can stop a murderer. I saved her life.
Edit:
That wasn't even funny.
I have. Saw one of my friends drowning in a pool (It was a long time ago.), so I reacted quickly and dived into the pool. Saw him and he grabbed onto my back. He was scratching my back and shit, but he made it out. After we got him out, he choked on water and coughed it out. His parents thanked me and so did he.
So... did some of you save anyone's life?
I'm sure a handful of other users have said this, but that's a dumbass thing to do. I'm sure you realize that now. I know it's your friend and all, but there are better ways to save someone than jumping in like that. I work as a life guard and I've had to save people on 2 different occasions where they tried being heroes like that. It went from one drowning victim to 2 before I could even reach them. I'm sure you realize how hard it is to pull one person to safety, but two is more than twice as hard.

Out of curiosity, what else are you supposed to do to help them? Not being snarky, I'd just like to know.
And, I think I've kept a number of people from committing suicide before.

if facepunch lifeguard doesn't make it in time, alas all you can do is stand and watch him die slowly

well, shit
Does giving blood count?
Yes.
My sister was messing around in the car, I was sitting not far away, I guess she hit something and the car started to roll backwards towards the highway in front of our house, so I hauled ass, managed to open the door and stomped my foot on then break pedal.
I still hate cars.
No
Maybe i saved someone's life, but I don't know it.
Probably indirectly.
I prevented a kid from getting hit by a fucking car. Pulled him out of the way last second. Felt like a bad ass.
I grabbed my at the time 7 year old cousin before she tripped down the stairs into the basement. I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have made it alive if she fell because the staircase was very steep and the fall would end on hard concrete floor.
I also spent entire nights talking people out of suicide and my ex boyfriend said if I hadn't been there he would've committed suicide. Then he went on a psychiatric institution and I broke up with him shortly after. :v
I broke the ice on a frozen pond to reach two kids who fell through the ice, and had a friend call 911 January '09.
So yes.
Quit bragging.
Twice, once was in Oceans of fun with a friend of mine, we were pretty young and he wanted to follow me to the deep end, as I was a pretty good swimmer, waves started up and I asked if he could handle it when they got bigger and he said yeah, waves soon peak at the highest tide and he goes under coughing and gagging and I ended up swimming against the waves and diving under for him, had to get some of the staff hands to bring him back as he was pretty much out cold when I got him to the side, he got up and then said he was strangely hungry soon afterwords.
Second time I was in a quick trip in the late hours and I was the only one in there other then the guy behind the counter was in the back of the store looking for some candy and shit cause me and a few of my friends were having a party and gaming and shit. Heard the ding of someone come in and didn't pay them much mind and went to the bathroom, when I came back out the dude was holding up the attendant with a knife threatening to kill him if he didn't get money or food or something stupid, he apparently didn't notice me and I snuck up on him and tackled him to the ground, he dropped the knife and hit me a few times before I knocked him out luckily, cops arrived as the fight was finishing and arrested him, they wanted to take me in to but the attendant said that I protected him and they just told me to head home and they'd take care of the situation. Also the snacks were free so I got a shit tone of doughnuts and crap.
What's with all these people near-drowning, is everyone really that bad at swimming?
I saved a friend of mine who crossed the road without watching, fucking tackled him so he wouldn't get squished like a lemon.
This guy was drowning so i saved him.
Probably. You never know when your interactions change the path of another.
No, but I saw someone who was in my preschool die.
Oh Fuck You whoever rated funny
Had a friend have a panic attack or something, and couldn't breathe, she passed out and we found out that she had an allergic reaction due to the rash on her fingers from eating... Something... But, I helped inject the syrette!
:buddy:
(In truth it sucked, it feels like shit to stab your friend.)
Stopped my uncle from slicing his wrists and i made my mum puke out all of her pills that she ate when she tried to kill herself (she had suicide note next to her and everything). My mums family are mostly suicidal with one uncle already dead and only one that i never know if tried to suicide, other 3 tried it before.
I walked down to the lake by my house once and a girl had fallen through the ice across the bay and I pulled her out...not sure if I saved her life or not but I felt kick ass
An emo friend of mine was contemplating suicide, I managed to talk him out of it and show him the positives of life. I felt really great after that.

Ditto, mine stopped going to school for like a month and was contemplating suicide too, I also managed to talk him out of it and he started going to school again and he keeps thanking me from times to times for what I've done.
It felt really great.
