Could someone give me a save/map name where I can test it? :v:
uh training course on hl1
on half life source, it first goes 'access denied' and then the second is 'no, no, NO'
I'm afraid I can't let you do that, Gordon. Now I'm just waiting for VOX to start singing Daisy.
I was gonna post that! "I feel much better now. I really do."
How the hell did everybody miss this
I'm surprised this isn't widely known by now. I assumed that since I found it, everyone must've known about it by then :v: [editline]6th February 2011[/editline] Especially considering I played HL2 before HL1.
What I love about VOX is that all the words are recorded separately as their own file and it uses sentences.txt to speak
// doors, general NA0 access denied NA1 access is denied NA2 unauthorized access NA3 illegal access NA4 this door is locked NA5 unauthorized access NA6 entry forbidden NA7 entry not permitted NA8 no unauthorized personnel NA9 you do not have access to this facility NA10 (p102) sorry, you may not enter NA11 (p102) sorry, this door is locked NA12 (p102) please, move away from this area NA13 (p102) please, move away from door NA14 (p103) you will not get in NA15 (p103) entry is not an option NA16 (p104) will we do this all day NA17 (p104) move on immediately NA18 (p105) no, no, and no(p80)
Also here is Gabe. On A Rail chapter, have to noclip to find him From the image name I'm guessing c2a2b2 is the map I took it on
Wow... Only like 3 people in here including me have already found this? Here's a tip for you all. EXPLORE Walk around the maps and take everything in. That's how you find these things in the first place.
My idea of exploring isn't walking into a door 20 times.
that was hilarious
I still find my own version of this to be the funniest (skip to 6:29 to go directly to the relevant part):
some epic shit i can't believe i missed that [editline]6th February 2011[/editline] also above poster what the fuck.
My idea of exploring isn't walking into a door 20 times.
I walked into it twice, and noticed it said something different. So I did it again and again and again and again etc.
also here is gabe. On a rail chapter, have to noclip to find him [img_thumb]http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/8906/c2a2b20000.png[/img_thumb] from the image name i'm guessing c2a2b2 is the map i took it on
GABECUBE DEMANDS THAT YOU OBEY AND SERVE YOU ARE POWERLESS TO RESIST :derp:
Sector 7G is also where Homer Simpson works in the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant :smug:
13 years after it's release, HL1 still had unfound easter eggs
I remember finding one of many developer's signatures within the maps.
He destroyed the vending machines
Oh... so that's why it was so hard to find!
Yeah, it's also why a bunch of HL1 style servers had the VOX voice able to say all sorts of crazy shit. The same thing goes with your HEV suit's voice, although to a much lesser extent. It just has like a million words and it strings them together to make sentences. That kinda shows how Valve was aiming at making the game super moddable even from the start, it's much more time consuming to make something string together sound clips to make customizable sentences than it is to just simply make it play a single sound, but it made it much easier for people to develop their own levels and stuff with the voice. :buddy:
I'm surprised I learn about this after such a long time since release.
Yeah, you could mix the existing voice files into a sentence in the console. Also works with soldier comms, but I forgot how since it's been years.
can you tells us how to too it? (how to make the vox say funny things)
And this was found recently? I would've expected that people would've found this a looong time ago by searching through the sound files and whatnot.
I remember playing with VOX's sentences some 4 or so years ago. I found the easter egg in the sentences.txt. There actually used to be a site some 5-10 years ago dedicated to fucking with these sound files. Also, anyone who has played the Scientist Slaughterhouse mod (if you haven't, you are doing yourself a disservice) knows that VOX says some damn funny shit.
Easy there fella, they probably did it just to reduce the file size of the game.
Creating a bunch of individually compressed sound files, a lot of which aren't even used, isn't more space efficient than creating only the sound clips that they need for specific events.

I am so going to try that :)
Would be the worst thing if the door opened if you had died :v:
