Who cares? We could make FUCKING PORTALS
And apart from being able to suck yourself off, what good would it do?
And apart from being able to suck yourself off, what good would it do?
Fast hazardous material transport, rescuing people from places etc.
Fast hazardous material transport, rescuing people from places etc.
Although we may need heel springs too. I can imagine all this becoming commercial and affordable in the yeeeeeear 2078.
Oh god, you have too much free time.
Oh god, you have too much free time.
By free time, you mean 15 minutes. Easy-as-hell maths excites you all doesn't it?
By free time, you mean 15 minutes. Easy-as-hell maths excites you all doesn't it?
No, I mean: why the fuck would you do this? There is no practical applications.
No, I mean: why the fuck would you do this? There is no practical applications.
I only did this because I remembered something GLaDOS said in the game, and I thought I'd explore and get a good estimate.
Anyone wanna buy me one?? :v:
By the way, can anybody think of somebody who can actually afford something as expensive as this?
-snip-
Thread is now about how much body parts are worth. In any other context this would be grounds to have Garry arrested.
Gigaking should be able to afford it.
Why the fuck did the OP add the wages together..? If one is the total population, and the other is the people with jobs, you should only use the population count of people with jobs. If it's $50,000, then it's really 'worth' 35.3 billion.
Recaculated combined income, instead of dividing total population by average family size. I took the percentage of people in Honalulu who are between the ages of 18 and 65 (or people who aren't underage or retired). Although there may be people there who work before or after those ages but what can you do?
Is the cake worth more?
She says that to everyone that grabs the portalgun
So who's buying the Facepunch Piggy-Bank?
She says that to everyone that grabs the portalgun
Can you give us a bit of proof to show how many people have been test subjects?
Thread is now about how much body parts are worth. In any other context this would be grounds to have Garry arrested.
Why would garry get arrested?
Can you give us a bit of proof to show how many people have been test subjects?
At least 234, according to the clipboards you find scattered around. I'm going to assume that the only clipboard skin without the word 'FAILED' stamped on them is supposed to be you. Also, in case you didn't notice, one of the test subjects was a chicken. People seem to think it's an alien or something but it' clearly a skeletal chicken on that clipboard. [editline]02:44PM[/editline] Also, the total cost of the device probably includes all the research grant money and salaries that went into developing it. Materials and such would probably only account for a fraction of that figure, unless it's a running total of all failed/rejected prototypes and whathaveyou or the device is made out of some super-rare alloys or uses some super rare element to fuel its space-bending properties.
You think too hard. Anyway I like this info.
Woah, nice find.
Bump for new OP pic.
It's gone up since then.
Well duh it's gone up since then. That wasn't my point. My point was what was the population in the year this was supposed to take place, which was 2001.
You need to put this as a point somewhere in the Overwiki. Sure more people would find out about it. I like these types of things. Where people take given info from a game and turn out their own cool conclusions. Like somewhere on the TF2 Wiki is a "did you know" about how much it would cost to fire the minigun given the inflation from the sixties to today.
*image* Since Chell is based on Alésia Glidewell who's hometown is Honalulu, Hawaii. Which has a population of 909,863, we can go from there to find the average wage, as well as the amount of people who have a job. Ok, lets break it down. 909,863 (Total population of Honalulu) X $50,000 (Average price for a whole human cadaver, thanks Meader!) = $45,493,150,000 (That's 45.49 BILLION dollars) 63% (The percentage of people between the age of 18 & 65) of 909,863 = 573,214 (Rounded to the nearest whole number), this is the amount of people who have a job. And since the average wage of a person in Honalulu is $56,311, 573,214 X $56,311 = $32,278,253,554 (32.27 billion dollars). Now for the final part, $32,278,253,554 + $45,493,150,000 = $77,771,403,554 So the final value of the Handheld Portal Device weighs in at 77.77 BILLION dollars. Good job Aperture Science, good job!:wotwot: I'm never gonna miss a tax rebate again. (P.S. This may qualify as a "Shit thread" in the eyes of some mods, if I have said anything incorrectly please don't post saying I'm wrong; gimme a PM and I'll send you one back.)
That's silly. The whole point of "<subject hometown here>" was to tell you that it could be applied to anyone. [editline]07:32AM[/editline] So now you must apply this to New York City.
Nice job quoting the whole OP including picture
it's spelt Honolulu, jesus christ you even linked the wikipedia page where it clearly says Honolulu.

And next time you quote, a good idea is to cut out the image, by either taking out the img completely, or replacing it with words, such as "picture of gun" or something. It just makes it cleaner and easier to scroll through the posts.
