its fake
Why won't the politicians just leave gamers be?
most of mainstream media is staffed with the kind of people who are divorced from reality - a century ago they'd be busy claiming Spanish flu isn't real and that Russia isn't in a middle of a famine

If you put a bunch of images on screen and draw lines between them it can look scary.

that pic is a meme for matt myers, some guy who doxxed/harassed people while (used to) working in anti-harassment firm and now becoming a gay furry to dodge a sexual assault claim

they're the perfect scapegoat it seems.
I think Hulk Hogan is there because people in GG as well as people in the alt-right supported him and cheered through his lawsuit with gawker.
That's an optimistic reading, considering that we've had multiple opinion pieces on major news websites mourning the death of Gawker as a huge blow against journalistic freedom. We've even gotten a fucking Netflix documentary spewing that message!

never thought i'd see undertale directly linked to nazism. But here we are.
I want to get off 2017's wild ride
Also this video is literally just propoganda. Like overlaying the image of the alt right march and some guy using a game controller. They're just trying to correlate two concepts that have literally nothing to do with each other what, just so their case is a little easier to swallow.
You'd think they'd at least be good at being propagandists, but no, they suck at that too.

That flashing between the game and the nazi march is bs though, reminds me of the clockwork orange scene. P stupid of NBC to do this, at least we can take solace in the knowledge that in a few years they'll probably close from not having enough viewers.

i cant find anything linking this matt to the image? Where dya get that link?
I wish Trump didn't taint the phrase fake news because a president who was interested in tackling poor journalism would be amazing, unfortunately Trump is only interested in anything that pertains to him. This is a mockery of my hobby and is downright insulting, it's like we're entering an era where being a "gamer" is negative again.
I don't know how much of this can be attributed to alt-right, and instead attributed to "people wanting to be as horrible as possible on the internet due to anonymity".

Scott Stiener and Depeche Mode are gateways to the white power movement.
Why is the "I came here to laugh at you" guy on the upper right?
That guy is from a Chinese cartoon called anime. The anime fandom is also an alt-right hive filled with neo-nazis, but it's difficult to expose them because all anime fans speak Chinese to throw off news reporters.

Oh whoops, my bad.
I saw it before the thread went up and didn't want to suffer through it again. Should've done so i guess.
Remember when comics were instruments of the devil that made you into a mass murderer?
Same shit different age.
I'm unconvinced the journalists (media interns?) behind this thing actually want to do any good about the supposed imminent alt-right threat when they're willingly falsifying evidence and blaming a completely unrelated group.

This is embarrassing. How many of you guys actually bought into thinking that this was legitimate?
I get the feeling that nobody actually watched the video considering that this blatantly fake diagram is supposed to be only 21 seconds into it.

Holy shit. I didn't even notice fucking Sans there. This diagram gets even more and more amazing every time I look at it.
We've seen this sort of bullshit peddled by the Mainstream Media before in decades past. In the 1980's, the MSM claimed Dungeons and Dragons was linked to Satan worship, in the 90's the MSM claimed violent video games turned people into mass murderers, now they're saying Discord and the gaming sub-culture helped facilitate the rise of the alt-right. It's just the media yet again looking for a short term ratings boost and failing to adapt to modern times. I mean c'mon they even resulted to using fabricated tweets to "prove" their point as someone pointed out earlier.

People have always thought what you're raised on is what makes you who you are, when it's more the individuals you're raised with who make you who you are. These nazi fuck wads, it isn't video games that makes them this way obviously but the people who raise them and who they socialize with. Games are merely a fun activity to congregate over and stuff like discord is a tool to talk, many people other than nazis play games and use discord as we know. These days I'd say people think ideology and religion are how people become this way, which is the right direction but it's looked at in a tunnel making people think only religion or politics make people who they are. It's a fascinating recipe to see how people become something. People are born as individuals, but they're shaped by other individuals. It's our relationships, and lack of relationships as well as healthy communication, that leads people to become horrific idiots.

The real version is similarly asinine.

That isn't the point. The point is that so many people on here took something so blatantly fake that was so easily verifiable, timestamp and all, as fact and ran with it, allowing it to form their perception of the video that they evidently didn't watch. And this is what happened on facepunch, which is usually at least somewhat above the bar for being thorough and rational. It doesn't really give me confidence that people have the desire or even the ability to have any sort of skepticism or discretion in regards to absurd pieces of misinformation, which is a huge problem when we want to have an informed discussion on hard topics like this.
This is an excellent demonstration as to why all forms of fake news and manufactured outrage are so effective. People don't care about what's actually true or real, only what gives them the most compelling sense of righteousness.

My comments on page one???

Two sides of the same coin. While the video isn't the most well-informed and isn't of the highest quality, that doesn't excuse people from giving the same lack of thoughtful consideration in their response.
