Gona remake the planet and creatures in Spore.
Saw this ages ago, might watch again someday. I miss discovery having great future docs, like this and 2057.
I used to fucking love this program.
those flying octopi look like controllers from half life
Why did you like the book better? In the book humanity almost wiped it's self out, fucked up and we're getting help from super intelligent aliens to save our planet and launch this expedition. I fucking HATED that. I saw the documentary first and when I found out that's what happened in the book it pissed me off.
Wow, that doesn't make any sense, why launch an expedition to search for alien life when we already got visited by alien life?
Their searchlight faceplates are pretty cool.
How is George Lucas qualified to talk about the science of alien planets? He directed Star Wars. A sci-fi fantasy. It's like getting David Bowie to chip in on interplanetary travel becuase he sang Space Oddity.
This just in, creating a franchise worth almost 4 1/2 billion dollars, with over 13 hours of footage and countless spin-off books, comics, and video games, which include frequent allusions to great literary art throughout the ages, is comparable to making a 5 minute song.

Being a pop culture icon doesn't mean you know anything about space just the same as owning sneakers doesn't make you a sprinter. Lucas (along with the 70 bajillion people working for and around him) might have invented a few alien races and slapped together a few solar systems but it doesn't mean that any of it would work outside of the Star Wars universe. I've got no beef with Lucas, I'm a huge Star Wars fan (save for the atrocious prequels), I just think he's out of his element here.
I just think he's out of his element here.
A science fiction screenwriter talking in a science fiction documentary based on a science fiction book. Completely different playing fields.
