okay homie, here's my arguement:
i enjoyed the solo record more. reasons: There were bits and pieces that I didn't expect to hear in a j-pop album. on an initial listen, it was a fairly euphoric listen.. imo a hidden gem from this year.
the midori album was intriguing but came across as showy as compared to other insane things to come from Japan. People were apparently amazed with how both "soft" and "harsh" Goto can be.. It's nothing new tbh, there's a ton of bipolar artists.. Instrumental-wise it was a decent fusion of jazz and hardcore.
I've heard a lot more intense styles of fusion and all in all it seemed like a gimmick.

you say that it's better because there are "things you didn't expect" when all of midori is shit you would never expect. naked city is the only thing even close to midori and midori does it far better. it wasn't all that experimental, it was just a more relentless album from start to finish.
also it's not only japanese people that make good music..
