That probably means that I wont. Honestly, I've gotten tired of most prog rock. Most prog rock tries to sound the exact same, which REALLY annoys me and is also the reason why I nowadays rarely listen to 70's prog anymore. Still, I'll give it a shot.
nah, it's a bit jazzy, metally and takes a nice vibe from the 70s prog greats. Great drumming too.

when things are jazzy it's a good thing
i've never seen them wearing anything other than checkered shirts
what about ironic t shirts that's like the main stereotype for hipster apparel
Done with Johnnytwentythree's JXXIII Pretty decent post rock. Kept a good atmosphere for the entirety of the album and had a few memorable moments here and there. Towards the end it felt really epic since I was listening to it while watching the Stratos jump. Could've been better, but I still quite enjoyed it. Last, but not least is Eluvium's Copia [editline]14th October 2012[/editline] And there went Eluvium's Copia. Damn great epic orchestral ambient. The overall feel was fantastic, the atmosphere was great and the piano songs were incredible. Hell of a way to end an album marathon. That concludes my mini-review album marathon thing. I'm finishing up the visual versions of the reviews and then I'll post them in the album rating thread.
Holy shit The Avett Brothers are good.

Heritage is greaaaat though 70s prog has a hell of a lot of diversity, you just have to know what you're looking for also I can go see roger hodgson live in april if I want yes please
this album is strange
didn't like that one at first since I loved their other death metal work, now I love it. Don't think much of Heritage though..
Opeth =/= death metal. Although most of their albums have growled vocals and loud guitars :O musically Opeth have never had much to do with death metal - i'm not saying that they're bad or not metal or anything like that, so actually read this post plz. When it comes to looking at riffing styles/song composition/production and stuff, there's hardly anything reminiscent of death metal at all - even the earliest albums which are the most "extreme" - imo they have much more in common with black metal in those respects. The later albums are admittedly more "death metal" sounding but again, there's nothing in the way the music is constructed and made that really hints at more than an influence of DM - they have progressive rock/metal songs with growled vocals. I know it's a bit nitpicky but it does rustle my jimmies a bit when people think that lower-register growls immediately means that it's deff mehtal
it's a bit nitpicky
you're probably right but i've lost the will to care about sub-genres of metal. Crusted Black Atmospheric Progressive Arse Metal is my metal of choice. [editline]15th October 2012[/editline]
when people think that lower-register growls immediately means that it's deff mehtal
it isn't straight up death metal obviously that's why the right term is "Progressive Death---- [sp]can't be arsed.[/sp]
don't get me wrong, I think the vast, vast majority of subgenres are fucking stupid, but imo death metal is a distinct enough strain of metal in its own right. it's not that Opeth aren't straight up death metal, it's that they aren't death metal at all/don't contain DM elements that are worth mentioning. they were just on the extreme side of progressive metal

[editline]15th October 2012[/editline] then again I wouldn't say Opeth are as extreme as Meshuggah.

hey guys listen to this pls http://viciousdelirium.bandcamp.com/ they are some friends of mine they are really great live
technical death then? [editline]15th October 2012[/editline] then again I wouldn't say Opeth are as extreme as Meshuggah.
what is it that you don't understand about "not death metal" :( like I said, you could probably call the first 2-3 albums black metal - melodic black metal if you were being a bit anal, the rest of it imo is progressive metal. I'll say it again, growls =/= death metal
what is it that you don't understand about "not death metal" :( like I said, you could probably call the first 2-3 albums black metal - melodic black metal if you were being a bit anal, the rest of it imo is progressive metal. i take pooping more seriously that metalsucks imo. Pooping in a healthy and comfortable manner is much more important to me. @Ak'z well obviously there are connections, second wave BM took off because death metal was saturating the market and getting all flabby and a bit old hat so some norwegian racist tabletop gamers decided to don the facepaint and record a few demos in their nan's shed. even if you're going to call opeth death metal because they were a bit black metal that sound is more or less gone by Blackwater Park when they begin their journey to becoming a King Crimson tribute act.
even if you're going to call opeth death metal because they were a bit black metal that sound is more or less gone by Blackwater Park when they begin their journey to becoming a King Crimson tribute act.
yeah i forgot to tell you i preferred their earlier work anyway. it was probably when they got Steven Wilson over to their crib that they started into a phase of prog nostalgic shiz.
yeah steven wilson is like a destroying angel of prog who rains down mellotrons on everyone who crosses him. i used to go mad over opeth post-still life and disregard everything before that but now i think Orchid and Morningrise are my fav opeth albums
