So I watched Metropolis today, it's aged really badly but you should all watch it because it's great for some reason.
it's aged really badly
1927... [editline]15th October 2012[/editline] also it's good but nowhere near the director's best. Try "M".
I've only seen part of that, but I want to watch it all. It's meant to be fantastic. Also seeing The Perks of Being a Wallflower a couple days ago has got me back into the Smiths yea [editline]15th October 2012[/editline] It was a seriously great film btw, loved it. Surprisingly dark and adult actually.
1927...
Thank you, I had no idea when it came out, you're a fantastic source of information.
I've only seen part of that, but I want to watch it all. It's meant to be fantastic.
it's mesmerising but not the best silent film flick. ain't got shit on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Page_of_Madness [editline]15th October 2012[/editline]
Also seeing The Perks of Being a Wallflower a couple days ago has got me back into the Smiths yea
want to see that.
Napolean was released in the same year and has aged much better, yes it isn't a silent film, like metropolis, but that's beside the point, the acting in metropolis is frankly terrible, I get that they exaggerate their movements and facial expressions to emphasise emotion, but it's unnecessary and looks silly [editline]15th October 2012[/editline]
Also seeing The Perks of Being a Wallflower a couple days ago has got me back into the Smiths yea
aren't The Smiths a big inspiration for Brand New?
I get that they exaggerate their movements and facial expressions to emphasise emotion, but it's unnecessary and looks silly
I'll take your word for Napoleon, but just because you feel uneasy towards a style of film doesn't make it silly.
I'll take your word for Napoleon, but just because you feel uneasy towards a style of film doesn't make it silly.
but it's unnecessary, Grot is the worse, he's meant to be serious but just comes across as someone out of a charlie chaplin film the way he moves in such an exagerated matter, his scenes near the end of the film kill all the drama, thanks to how terrible his acting is
just comes across as someone out of a charlie chaplin film the way he moves in such an exagerated matter
so you hate chaplin films too?
so you hate chaplin films too?
nah, I like chaplin films, but not characters from them in serious movies

I think you're underestimating the importance of that. We did a case study for them back in university, and metropolis is a masterpiece of that era. Instead of just saying they're stupid, think about the context of when the film was released and understand that they had to make sure people knew what they were doing because the films were lo-fidelity, there was no sound and cinemas were so new that viewers were not open to the subtleties of theatre at that point. It's an entirely different context so it's not terrible at all.
but it's unnecessary, Grot is the worse, he's meant to be serious but just comes across as someone out of a charlie chaplin film the way he moves in such an exagerated matter, his scenes near the end of the film kill all the drama, thanks to how terrible his acting is
It actually was necessary. With all respect it doesn't exactly seem like you're judging these films the right way :/
Yeah I think you watched the film entirely wrongly. You're watching it thinking like it's a film from 2012, when it's not. It's 85 years old. It's not going to be the same as anything made recently. You had the wrong mindset watching it. It's like when I go to the cinema to see an old film, there's always people laughing at things that aren't funny because they look old or whatever. I feel like I can tell they never watch old films so they don't understand or appreciate how they're different from the films of the 21st century. It's pretty much an entirely different medium.
nah, I like chaplin films, but not characters from them in serious movies
you're saying Metropolis is bad because exaggerated movements make you laugh. I don't think it's the movie that needs to be serious bro.
aren't The Smiths a big inspiration for Brand New?
Yep, they're even mentioned in a few songs. Jesse worships Morrisey
morrissey is such a bellend
If Wavering Radiant is supposed to be ISIS' best album then the rest of their stuff must suck cos that was really dull and boring and overall uninteresting and bad time for tom waits
Wavering Radiant is my least favourite of theirs, their most ~interesting~ is Panopticon. Never bores me (except Altered Course aka the same chord progression for 9 minutes, literally not fucking joking) but it's an awesome album
If Wavering Radiant is supposed to be ISIS' best album then the rest of their stuff must suck cos that was really dull and boring and overall uninteresting and bad
What.
What.
it was dull and empty, and nothing interesting was going on at all so I got bored and changed it over and I guess I'll check out Panopticon at some point then
i don't find isis that boring well, maybe if you listen to a lot of their songs in a row.
it was dull and empty, and nothing interesting was going on at all so I got bored and changed it over and I guess I'll check out Panopticon at some point then
I've only got Panopticon, listened to it a few times, and did enjoy it. Worth the listen definitely
wow... media tags are crapping out
The problem is the URL starts with https not just http Whatever Garry's using for video tags these days gets whiny when something doesn't come up in the exact format it expects. [editline]15th October 2012[/editline] i've got to learn userscripts so I can make something that fixes this shit
Remember the old media tags that were drop-downs and stayed hidden till you clicked them those were the best
Remember the old media tags that were drop-downs and stayed hidden till you clicked them those were the best
good times when fp didn't fuck up my browser.
Yup. Now if I load a page with a bunch of videos, my computer shits itself and freezes up. Shockwave crashes all the fucking time as well if there's a lot.

The new Machinae Supremacy album makes me so happy ~~~ that is all
glad to hear that. I'm guessing you read the book? did it keep true to it or did it stray a bit? I'll have to get it on dvd.
I've not, but after seeing the film I've ordered it. I'll start on it once I finish American Psycho. It's apparently very very similar to the book, which makes sense seen as the author was also the screenwriter and director :v:
oh well. I'm going to watch it regardless. the book is really good, it's one of my favorites.
wtf why am i listening to yes and enjoying it what is going on with me?
