don't feel stupid, there will be bods who tell you that you're inferior but some people don't get it that the eyes get bored. :-)
I would rather go for a long walk and experience a book than set up a regime of when I should read a book for long periods of time.
Srs, I love reading books and being engaged and all, but if I leave reading it for a day or two, I'll lose interest.

I think there is a genre or type of book for everyone, you just haven't found the right book. To really get into reading you need a first book that really grasps you and immerses you into the story.

people put up with shitty tv/films because [b]exciting plot[/b] and watching is something you can do much more passively - is it the same with audiobooks for you? (i.e. do you focus on something else at the same time, is that why you want your hands to be free?)

Well not necessarily language in my opinion though ofcourse it is important, but more generally the way you present a story (which language is a part of ofcourse). I won't read a book unless I like the story though, and what I really mean is if it's exciting. It can have a beautiful painting language but if I don't like the characters or the world the author is painting I won't read it.
Personally I prefer audiobooks more than books these days because I don't have to focus on reading, these days when I try to sit down and read I usually get to distracted by thoughts or sounds, but listening to the book is like having it be read in your head. It's nice cause I can lie in bed at night, close my eyes and make no effort at all. I suppose I can tolerate 'worse' books, hell I've even thought to myself "I wish there were more history books on audio, then I'd probably be able to enjoy them".
