Why use Paint?
i cant use my tablet for shit in photoshop so im just practing my digitalness in paint until i can get good enough. plus i like that pixely look and inspirerd by this blog: http://kathysbrotherssister.tumblr.com/

There is something to be said for not using specific techniques (opacity/transfer blending) until you have nailed a specific fundamental (accurate use of colour, in this example). But to use paint instead of photoshop until your skills get good enough is, in my opinion, just going to slow you down. Why not use photoshop, stick to the basic round brush and see how you get on?

ill eventually get into photoshop, just gotta get a grip on digital painting first
As much as I love paint, I love layers more.
I actually had assumed MS would have added the function of layers in Paint when I heard they updated it for Windows 7.
She's a small girl.
Thats not realy how proportion works, unless she is a young teen and not fully grown. Im 4'11 and slight of build, assuming she isnt smaller than me, im proportionally 6-61/2 heads tall, length lost mostly at the hips and legs. (At least more so there than elsewhere) She is about 5 heads in your picture so I would adjust it at least somewhat smaller. Her legs and arms also look very thin compared to body and head, so I would fesh those out a bit, its probably part of what is contibuting to the huge head look. Her body seems very blocky and lacking in shape as well? Seems like she doesnt have enough of a a waist? [editline]10th March 2013[/editline]
I actually had assumed MS would have added the function of layers in Paint when I heard they updated it for Windows 7.
They did, although ive downloaded to old xp paint onto my laptop because it worked better for me in how I pixel, which is what I used it for.
omg omg sexy
Thanks =D Does anybody have any criticism about that stuff I posted above? Rip it apart if you like - even if it's stuff I've already heard before, it'll be good to hear it again if I'm still making the same mistakes. For one I dislike how this is all just images on separate planes and not linked in any physical way to show depth
Your work and composition is fine but as everyone has said you should try defining shapes a helluva lot more, perhaps trying to make a full scene or matching a near-professional standard with the rendering.
Update: What do you guys think of the 3D? I thought I'd experiment compositing a city model I made to save some time. It works okay I guess.
im out of ideas/have so many ideas theyre clogging my brain so i just draw 'creepy things', at least thats something
Your work and composition is fine but as everyone has said you should try defining shapes a helluva lot more, perhaps trying to make a full scene or matching a near-professional standard with the rendering.
Sweet! Thanks man [editline]11th March 2013[/editline]
Update: What do you guys think of the 3D? I thought I'd experiment compositing a city model I made to save some time. It works okay I guess.
It's lookin pretty sweet! As Lilyo said though, the perspective is a little off. I did a couple of paintovers to illustrate this (hah illustrate a++++ art pun) for you; Original perspective Roughly correct perspective Altered image to fit corrected perspective I left the right bridge and the cliff edge directly below the main top-left structure as they were, and adjusted the perspective lines of the left bridge and lower cliff edge to fit. [editline]11th March 2013[/editline] You could probably actually pull the horizon down further than I have, given that those mountains are rising quite high above it. If there were other distant mountains shown, just peeking over the ones in the background, it could work too
Awesome dude! I don't know how I could have missed that, it seems so obvious now (the bridges). I guess I was staring at it too long. It's weird cause I thought I'd mapped out the perspective properly to begin with so I'm not sure how it got so messed up. Thanks so much for explaining it though, I'll work on fixing it tomorrow and call it finished :)
I really want to make this my first detailed landscape. I never really finished one before..
A couple of areas are a bit confusing (The vertical stack of light coloured rock about 1/3 from the bottom and 1/4 from the right) but otherwise it's amazing
That's a gap in the larger formation, I think.
Hrrrg you guys are so good. Hoping my work doesn't pale too badly in comparison.
ill eventually get into photoshop, just gotta get a grip on digital painting first
But Paint doesn't really do digital painting. Whatever you produce, unless you spend a hundred years hand-picking tones for colour gradation, is going to be pixel art. You won't be any better going into photoshop after a year of practicing in Paint or whatever, it's a different ball game. Using a tablet and stylus in Paint is like buying a fantastic paintbrush and then using it as a palette knife Not discounting Paint as a medium, just saying don't play golf to get good at football. I'll stop making analogies now
Update: What do you guys think of the 3D? I thought I'd experiment compositing a city model I made to save some time. It works okay I guess.
It doesn't work for me I mean it's "ok" like you said, to make it good you'd have to go in and paint over all of it to match the lighting and values and break the stoic geometry a bit. So personally I'd be asking myself why composite 3D work when I could just paint the buildings straight in, since I'll have to do that anyway to get a decent result.. And while the grid fits in underneath the bridges for that whole plane, where it's overlaid on the tower and the round structures it needs to be painted out imo
