areas that looked as though I'd rendered them quite softly just look sharp as hell
good
i would never have guessed this piece is yours, partly because the setting/subject matter is far removed from your usual green fields with a building in the middle stuff but mostly because the style is, in my opinion, so much better than a lot of your previous work
i've always thought your work was mostly too blurry. it's not that it's under-rendered at all, more that it's all a bit muddy and blurry. this may sound really cheap but i'd say that some careful use of smart sharpen in the right places would do wonders for your work - there's no shame in post-processing in digital art

I agree! I'm really happy with the sharpness on the ship and foreground. I preferred the softer background that the original had at unusual zoom levels though

Hello! I've never posted on here before, but I've browsed the Creationism Corner for quite a while. I wanted to post something as I'm starting to take digital painting a bit more seriously, any help with it would be most appreciated!
Well I wasn't able to log in at first cause facebook is blocked at school and then when I managed to do it it didn't let my download the template for some reason so I made a new account and I'm doing it at the same time next week I guess... we have 4 hours apparently. I don't really understand how it works though, are there judges that determine which person gets the spot or what?
I have no idea really. It sounded like anybody could chip in something, but then again, Im pretty sure nobody wants a shitty drawing in the middle of professionals so Im guessing theres going to be a bit of judging and stuff like that. Did you get to see the template or nothing at all? Id really like to know a bit more about what we have to do, if we have to modify something given to us or just continue a drawing from someone else

~40 minutes?
since the last art i showed was pshit, here's some stuff i am usually capable of sketching up in 20 mins or so

a few refs for sam, barely any for raiden

no refs at all, done in like 15 minutes probably
besides investing more time in my drawings and learning how to anatomy, what can i do to improve? i want some real-talk advice, not just "get gud" because i reaaaaallly wanna get gud without becoming dependant on dumb shit like the dreamworks grin, samefaceness, or shit anatomy
[editline]14th March 2013[/editline]
perspective also confuses me. need help with that

Photo studies and figure drawing is probably your best bet. Still lives of even just random crap around your house works as well, helps you train your observation skills. Thats usually the best place to start.

Alright. Even taking tiny glances at references helped me out with my first drawing of Jetstream Sam in my first drawing up there.
Any good sites that have cool images I can study from, or what kind of stuff should I doodle? anything?
Look up Andrew Loomis's books for some good learnin'. He's got a pretty nice conversational tone to his works - talks like a friendly old Grandpa. You can often find PDF versions of his books around - I'm not sure if they're in print any more though

I read 'porn study' and thought you'd paused pornos at intervals and done figure drawings from them, which to be honest doesn't sound too bad an evening

Yeah they never emailed me or made the download available during my time, idk. Tell me how it works during the weekend.

I can't even get down a basic anatomy pose-thing like this. the depth and everything just confuses me.
Bringing this back up, does one sketch these skeletons out and compare them to actual photographs of people to spot mistakes and eventually correct them, or what? I haven't drawn for nearly a decade now and I want to actually develop some competence when it comes to proportions, anatomy, etc.

Doing this for a magazine spread promoting an album.
I posted it in the graphic design thread, but I figured since it's still just drawing that I would get better CC here.
If I paint acrylic on a stretched canvas (thin layer) and then go over with oil once it dries, will it matter? Does it mater the oil harder to stick or something?

Tree form looks nice, the high contrast makes it look more like cast iron or something than wood though. More midtones for something that close to the viewer. The path looks a bit out of perspective as well
Well I'm no artist, just started getting into this a few months ago.
This took me a while to complete. Just a test doodle for perspective, no fancy paper.
